The time of Japan, the time of the world

We will not allow China to unify Taiwan by force.

The following is from today's Nikkei editorial.
The text below the asterisk is mine.
China and Russia are challenging the international order based on the rule of law, and global stability has been shaken for the first time since World War II and the Cold War.
The United States, single-handedly responsible for global stability, has little strength left.
As an ally that shares values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights, the need for Japan to support the United States has never been greater.
One of the pillars agreed upon at the meeting was China's deterrence efforts.
Biden said that the U.K. would be militarily involved in any Taiwan contingency and confirmed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
He also condemned maritime expansion into the East and South China Seas.

At a press conference, Biden expressed a sense of crisis, saying, "We will not allow China to unify Taiwan by force."
Japan and the U.S. need to enhance their deterrence and response capabilities to prevent such a situation.
The prime minister conveyed to Biden his intention to drastically strengthen defense capabilities, including increased defense spending.
He said he would not rule out all options, including a "counterattack capability" against countries that attack Japan.

Extended deterrence is the idea that a nuclear attack on an ally is regarded as an attack on one's own country and counterattacked with atomic weapons.
We hope that both countries will continue to take every opportunity to confirm a robust extended deterrence and increase confidence in this framework.

*The reality of Russia and China is beginning to prove the correctness of the "turntable of civilization" editorial.
