うん、前々からね、日本の素晴らしい歌詞達を英訳出来たらと思ってたんです。
まだ私の英語表現力は不十分ですが、そこは…すみません！！(勢いでどうにかしようという意図)
今回ご紹介するのは2002年にリリースされました元ちとせさんの
「ワダツミの木」
「ワダツミ」は日本神話での海の神様です。
ご存知の方もいらっしゃると思いますが、当時ね、テレビ東京の深夜枠で放送されてた「Showbiz countdown 」っていう映画紹介番組のエンディングソングだったんですよ。
声も言葉もサウンドもリズムも、斬新かつ古めかしくて今までにない高揚感を感じたのを覚えてます。
奄美大島民謡の歌唱法を用いて、古来から在る日本特有の美しく妖いアンダーグラウンドな世界を創り上げた上田さん(プロデューサーさんです)にもう頭が上がりませんね。
海の神も私達の知らないところで彼の人を思い慕っていたのでしょう。
