Another month, another 95,000 people lost their jobs in the eurozone.

更に一ヶ月が経ち、更に95,000人がユーロ圏で失業しました。

The EMU unemployment rate nudged up a point to 12.2pc, but this understates those who have dropped out of workforce. The European Commission says the real rate for Italy is around 20pc, not the declared rate of 11.2pc.

ユーロ圏の失業率は若干上昇して12.2%になりました
しかしこれは労働力から脱落した人をちゃんと数えていません。
イタリアの本当の失業率は、公式発表されている11.2%ではなく約20%だろう、と欧州委員会は言っています。



There are now 19.4 million registered unemployed in Euroland and 26.6 million in the EU as a whole. There are 5.6m youths below the age of 25 looking for jobs.

今やユーロ圏では1,940万人、EU全体では2,660万人が失業者として登録しています。
25歳以下の求職者は560万人に上ります。

Frankly, I have nothing further to say on this. The chart below contrasts EMU policy failure with the US and Japan.

率直に言って、僕はこれについてこれ以上言うことがありません。

Europe was subjected to much the same shock as the US when the global credit/globalisation bubble burst in 2008.

ヨーロッパは、世界的な信用／グローバリゼーション・バブルが2008年に弾けた時、米国と同じだけショックを受けました。

The US has done better because of:

米国がヨーロッパよりも上手くやった理由は：

a) monetary stimulus (QE1)　
a) 金融刺激策（QE1）

b) QE2
b) QE2

c) QE3
c) QE3

d) less fiscal tightening in the early phase of recovery, though the US is doing more than Europe now (2pc of GDP this year viz. 1.2pc in Euroland). Timing matters.
d) 景気回復の早い段階で欧州ほど財政引き締めを行わなかったこと。でも、今現在、米国はヨーロッパよりも頑張っています（今年はGDPの2%ですが、ユーロ圏は1.2%）。タイミングが肝心なのです。

e) better governance, institutions, and leadership, and the inherent advantage of a democratic nation state over an octopus
e) より優秀なガバナンス、制度、リーダーシップと、烏合の衆にはない民主主義国家の本質的アドバンテージ。

f) a coherent currency
f) 一貫した通貨

g) a coherent energy policy
g) 一貫したエネルギー政策

Britain's unemployment is 7.7pc on the Eurostat measure.

英国の失業率は7.7%です（EUROSTAT調べ）。

Peculiar isn't it that GDP contraction in Britain and Spain has supposedly been similar, yet Spain's jobless rate has jumped to 26.8pc?

英国とスペインのGDP縮小は似てるはずなのに、スペインの失業率は26.8%へ急上昇って、おかしくありませんか？
