Unwanted calls in Chinese at City Hall
Mr. Kibata explained the reality of the nuisance calls: "There have been about 200 calls in two days at City Hall. It seems that elementary and junior high schools are also receiving quite a few calls," he explained.
On March 26, Fukushima City Mayor Hiroshi Kibata posted on his Facebook page that after the discharge of treated water from TEPCO's Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant into the ocean, he received a series of unwanted phone calls in Chinese at the city hall and other locations.
He said, "This is a country that does not know what it is doing. In addition to the damage caused by the nuclear accident, Fukushima is also burdened with dealing with the aftermath," he wrote.
Mr. Kibata commented on the reality of nuisance phone calls, "There were about 200 calls in two days at the city hall. Elementary and junior high schools are receiving quite a few calls. There are also many restaurants, hotels, and inns, with many receiving more than 100 calls from one business alone. Many of them originated from +86 (China) and were in Chinese.
