人民共和国になって論争にもなった唐「黄巣の乱」は、殺された民衆が八百万人とされる。

長安城外に巨大な舂磨砦が造られ、捕獲民衆を日に千人この巨大な臼に入れ、骨ごとの人肉ミンチを生産し、乾尸（干し肉）や塩尸（塩漬け肉）まで作って兵糧にした。

これは、正史『唐書』『新唐書』や『資治通鑑』だけでなく、アラビア商人の「印度・支那物語」にも出てくる話である。

黄巣の乱では、広州でも大虐殺があり、イスラム商人も虐殺され尽くした。

近代でも、太平天国の虐殺はよく語られる。

天理教（白蓮教徒）の乱では、広東で約百人が虐殺された。

孫文が広州で軍政府をつくった際には、北方から「客軍」（外省犬部隊）が乱入し、ジリ貧になった孫文は広州大虐殺を行った。　

支那虐殺史の中では、四川の蜀人は南方の越人よりもっと哀れだ。

秦に征服され、三国時代には蜀漢として中原の魏、南方の呉と鼎立し、『三国志演義』の舞台にもなった。

蜀は中原の地から遠く離れた奥地であるが、「天下大乱の前にはまず蜀が先に乱れ、天下が鎮まった後でも蜀はまだ鎮まらない」と言われ、蜀人は三国時代に蜀漢から何度も大虐殺に遭い、人口がそっくり入れ替わることさえあった。

知名な文学者・林語堂は、国民党の７年間の内戦だけで三千万人が死んだとし、そんな中国人を「敗類」（クズども）と呼ぶ。
