年の始めにあたり若生のり子のドローイングの作品を紹介することから始めます。
タイトルもちょうどそのとおりですので。
From the Beginning

Statement
Go to some place that is far away
from any manifestation of human material progress,
experience the sunset, the coming night and the coming dawn,
and you may awake the feeling of being alone in an endless world
that is so real and yet so unknown to you;
a world that is yours and where you are eternal and yet where nothing is yours
and you are only passing by as millions of others before you have passed
that were the same as you and no different from you.
For most of us, the period between human's known first steps to today is a story of numbers and strange names.
We seem to know so much about this period which covered so many thousands of years.
Yet the human race’s identity, the human race’s destiny,
the human race’s purpose or reason for dwelling on this planet
is still as unknown to us today as it must have been to those who walked on this planet in those primordial times.
The human race’s life then, its fears, its hopes, the occasional joy life must have presented it with, all look so familiar that,
in a very basic sense, our own life on this planet has not changed at all.
これは、「Human being serise」のひとつとして描いたものです。
何もかも削ぎとって、出来るだけ “simple” な “line” ですべてを表したいと思い究極に考え付いたドローイングです。
ニューヨークに居た時に描いたもので、ステイトメントは英語で書きました。日本語に訳すと違ったものになってしまいますので、敢えてそのままにしました。
