Experience trip: November 8th 1pm30 at Gion Higashi Quarter

Thanks to Okami sama and Manager, we have a very precise chance to enjoy this event. I want to share something about it. It is one of the most valuable experience of my life.
Gion Odori, known as Maple dance, from the first time in 1894, it has been anticipated as one of remarkable events in Kyoto in Autumn. It is annually performed by Geiko(Geisha), and Maiko(apprentice) at Gion East Quarter from 1952. This year it is the 61st event of Gion Odori and in schedule from November 1st till November 10th. It is quite unexpected to me that the event of this year is inspired by the idea of Japanese traditional toys. It seems the organizers they want to pull Japanese Young Generation close to national traditional art???
We came to the Hall of Gion East Quarter at around 1pm to enjoy the Tea Ceremony before the performance at 1pm30. My first impression about Gion East Quarter that it is a quite old building. However, it is out of my expectation that the performance inside that antique building is surrounded by modern digital light and sound effect (さすが日本).
The performance includes 06 scenes lasting exactly 60 minutes but in fact it made you feel less than one hour because the performance was over anticipatedly amazing. As aforementioned this year the event with the theme of traditional toys. Many toys, from very familiar toys such as goma, origami… to some strange toys that I have not seen before, are used as main motifs of the performance.
The 1st scene could refresh your eyes by so brilliant costume and your mind by wonderful music. The dance was said to be usually performed to celebrate a New Year. I could even feel the cherry flowers embroidered in dancers ‘costume’s sleeves flying around your eyes by each movement of performers.
Against to the glorious background with Fuji mountain and cherry bloom forest of the 1st scene, the 2nd scene had a goma shop as background and with an interesting topic (a funny quarrel between couples in which the final winner was decided by playing goma). It made me realized that dancer of a Geiko can come from a very normal daily topic like this.
The most impression of the 3rd scene is that it was supported by so awesome digital light effect. The movement of digital origami crane was so lively consisted with each movement of dancers. I believe that if anyone who brougt your kids along to this event will be very satisfied with this scene. You can also have a chance to get a small surprising origami from Maiko.
The 4th scene with the name Sugoroku （双六）is a dance performance in ordinary clothes but the music of this scene was the most impressive in my opinion. I unnoticedly crossed my eyes sights to the left corners of the stage many times to observe face movements of singers when they performed. With only three singers, three Shamisen players who played three-stringed music instruments (why are all number three like this???) but the sound they brought to all audience could be more than enough, even equally to a band of concert. So efficient.
The 5th scene was performed by charming Maiko. Compared to the mature of Geiko, the performance of Maiko was so lovely. They also appeared in the final scene. The scene was called signature performance and the background was changed to Autumn Leave which seemed to explain the reason why the event was called Maple dance.
I strongly recommend you to come to this event especially foreigner individual and even Japanese tourist group, because it is not easy for you to have chance to invite nearly 20 Keiko and Maiko to dance like this, not mention to the live sound and light effect of stage which is incomparable.
If you can spend thousands of Yen to travel to Japan and even spend more than that on shopping, why don’t you just spend a little money to buy this experience for your life. I believe that it is totally worthy.

第１展示室から第6展示室まで展示された、エネルギー溢れる作品にパワーをもらいました。

京都の暑かった夏も初秋を迎え少しづつ涼しくなってきました。
現在京都の五つの寺（三千院、圓光寺、建仁寺、東福寺、常寂光寺）で「モシュ印/コケ寺リウム」キャンペーンが開催されています。（～11月30日）
「モシュ印」とは英語で苔を意味するmossと御朱印を掛け合わせて造語。
各寺院の御朱印の文字を苔で描いたオリジナルアート。
「コケ寺リウム」とは苔テラリウムと寺を掛け合わせた造語。
密閉したグラス容器の中に各寺院の象徴的な建造物のジオラマと庭園を苔で再現したミニチュアアートだそうです。
私は今回建仁寺に見に行ってきました。
建仁寺は京都最古の禅寺。
俵屋宗達の「風神雷神図屏風」、小泉淳作筆の天井画「双竜図」などで良く知られています。
私がこの寺が好きなのは全てオープンにされており、他にも高精細デジタル複製された「雲龍図」、「竹林七賢図」、「琴棋書画図「」なども自由に写真撮影ができます。
本坊中庭にある潮音庭は中央に三尊石を配した四方正面の禅庭で苔に覆われています。
この機会にぜひ珍しい苔の御朱印を見に来てください。
拝観料500円で、当館からは京阪電車神宮丸太町から祇園四条駅下車徒歩約7分、市バスだと202号系統で河原町丸太町から東山安井下車徒歩約5分です。

今、生誕110年という事で、京都国立近代美術館にて、東山魁夷展が開催されています。
本格的な展覧会は大学生の時以来かな～と思ったら、やはり京都では30年ぶりの開催だそうです。
そのせいか、私が行ったのは平日でしたが、かなり混んでいました。
タクシーで乗り付けてくる方も結構おられました。
今回も京都は描いた作品ももちろん転じされていて、京洛四季の習作やスケッチも見ることができます。
川端康成の進言で“古都”京都を描くようになったためです。
私のお気にいりはやっぱり「年暮る」。
彼の作品は「あお」がすばらしいですが、「しろ」もいいですね。私は「白い朝」が一番好きです。
一面雪の中に一羽の鳥が枝にとまっている。
そんな姿が孤高の画家を思わせます。
昔に買った絵葉書は今でも持っています。
今回の展覧会でも見ることができました。
白い馬シリーズや唐招提寺御影堂障壁画も見られますのでぜひ行って見られたし。
市営地下鉄とコラボでスタンプラリーもやってます。
会期は10月8日まで。

フォーエバー現代美術館は、10年間秋田市にありましたが、2017年6月、東山区祇園町南側の、都をどりの会場として知られる祇園甲部歌舞練場内に舞台を移して移転オープンしました。
大正2年建築の有形文化財「八坂倶楽部」を利用した美術館。
現在オープン1周年を記念して、畳敷きの展示空間で「草間彌生・永遠の南瓜展」を開催。
私は草間彌生のアート作品の実物を見るのは初めてで、まったく新しい芸術との出会いを感じました。
展示作品の多くは撮影禁止なので、作品をご紹介する事ができません。
「永遠の南瓜展」は2019年2月までです。
館内には、ミュージアムショップや、草間彌生スイーツなどが楽しめるカフェを併設しています。
建物の周辺には日本庭園が広がり、庭に降りて有形文化財のてて物を眺めながら、四季折々の風情を楽しみながら散策もできます。
建仁寺や祇園エリアを散策される際には一度立ち寄られてみてはいかがでしょうか。
