仏画曼荼羅アートの各教室は、年度変わりのこの時期に新しい生徒さんを迎えている。新規で参加される場合は、まず仏画曼荼羅アートとは(?) の説明と実際に鉛筆で「干支本尊お札(お守り)」を制作していただく。
自分の本尊を和紙に写し取り、その左右に般若心経を書き添える。それを別の和紙の中に包み込みこむと体験としてのお札制作は終わりだが、お守りとして大切に保存していただくために包み込んだ和紙の表紙に、自分の本尊をお祀りしている寺院の御朱印をいただく。そんな内容の体験講座を行っている。
これを機に続けたいという人のために、随時課題が用意されている。次の課題として写真にあるように、半切1/2ほどの大きさ和紙の中央に「大日如来立像」を写し、体験会で制作したお守りと同様に般若心経を書く。
体験会ではすべて鉛筆で描くが、それ以降は、仏画も般若心経も鉛筆以外でもチャレンジできる。見てのとおり、仏画は鉛筆、般若心経は朱墨。このコントラストが彩になりほんの少し華やかなアート作品として楽しめる。
体験会あとの初心者のチャレンジ
Each Buddhist painting mandala art class welcomes new students at this time of year when the new school year begins. For new participants, they will first receive an explanation of what Buddhist painting mandala art is and then actually create a "Zodiac honzon ofuda (amulet)" with a pencil.
Copy your honzon onto washi paper and write the Heart Sutra on both sides. The experience of making the ofuda is completed when you wrap it in another piece of washi paper, but you will receive a goshuin from the temple where your honzon is enshrined on the cover of the washi paper so that you can carefully preserve it as an amulet.
This is the kind of experience course we offer. For those who want to continue, assignments are prepared from time to time. The next assignment, as shown in the photo, is to copy the "Dainichi Nyorai standing statue" in the center of a piece of washi paper about the size of a half-cut sheet of paper, and write the Heart Sutra on it, just like the amulet you made in the trial session.
Everything is drawn with a pencil during the trial session, but after that, you can try making Buddhist paintings and the Heart Sutra (Enghish) with something other than a pencil.
As you can see, the Buddhist painting is done in pencil, while the Heart Sutra (Enghish) is done in vermilion ink. This contrast creates color and makes the artwork slightly more colorful and enjoyable.
