リン・アンダーソン Lynn Anderson（1947年～2015年）は、カントリー・ポップス歌手。世界的な大ヒットとなった「ローズ・ガーデン ((I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden)」など、1970年代から1980年代に一連のヒット曲を出した。
「ローズ・ガーデン」は、シンガーソングライターのミュージシャンであるジョー・サウスが作った楽曲で1967年・69年に別の歌手によりレコード化された。リン・アンダーソンがカバーしたシングルば1970年10月にリリースされ、1971年初めにかけて大ヒットし、カントリー音楽の曲の中でも、ジャンルや時代を超えて最も売れた楽曲のひとつとなった。カントリー音楽チャートで1位になる大ヒット曲となったばかりでなく、ポップ・チャートである Billboard Hot 100 でも3位まで上昇した。
リン・アンダーソン版制作時には、当初プロデューサーで夫のサットンは、「大きなダイヤモンドの指輪みたいなものだって君にあげると約束できたんだ (I could promise you things like big diamond rings)」といった歌詞は、男性が歌うべきだと考えて渋っていたが、アルバム制作が迫っていたので、アレンジとして、アップテンポにして、メロディーを軽いタッチに変え、マンドリンとストリングスを入れた。出来がよくなったので、レコード会社はカントリーだけでなくポップス部門でもプッシュすることにし、世界的なヒットにつながった。
リン・アンダーソンはこの歌にベトナム戦争で萎縮したアメリカ人の心に転換をもたらしたかったと述べている。
日本でも、当時ヒットして数年はラジオでよく流されていた。爽やかな曲調が評価されたのだろう。のちの少女アイドル歌謡曲にも影響を与えたと思われる。
