Of my acquaintances, there are several Japanese-S. Korean couples, and I heard about their problems in S. Korea several times.
The problem is that S. Korean parents & family members say words like "ilbonnom" (Japanese bastards) and "jjokbari" (a derogatory term for Japanese) in front of their Japanese spouses without hesitation.
Of course, they don't say it to the spouses, while most of the time it just slips out while watching a TV program or in casual conversation.
In other words, they don't have malicious intention, but rather it hurts the counterpart.
This is not limited to Japanese persons.
It's the same for blacks, whites and Asians.
It's lack of the idea of putting themselves in the other person's shoes.
For Koreans, the distinction between people is a dichotomy between "we (S. Korean)" and "other (foreigners)"🧐
In my experience, S. Korean international students & company employees staying in Japan aren't different so much.
