Australia is set to become only the third country – after the United States and Japan – to be allowed to convert its currency directly to China's tightly-controlled yuan.
オーストラリアは世界で3番目（米国、日本に続く）の、自国通貨を厳格に管理されている中国人民元と直接取引出来る国となります。
The deal will cement the economic ties between the two nations and save costs for businesses which will no longer have to convert currency to the US dollar or the yen before trading in yuan.
この取り決めはオーストリアと中国の経済関係を強化し、企業の両替コスト節約を節約します。
The currency deal comes during a visit to China by Australia's Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, who has previously flagged plans to increase the prominence of the yuan as a global reserve currency. China is Australia's largest trading partner and has fuelled a decade-long mining boom, with trade soaring to record levels last year of ￡82 billion ($AUD121 billion).

During a meeting with Ms Gillard on the weekend, China's new President, Xi Jinping, said he wanted to take his country's relationship with Australia "to a new level".

Ms Gillard said the currency trading marked a "big step" for Australia and would make it much easier for businesses to operate in China. About ten banks are expected to be licensed to make the new market for the currency trades, including some from China, some from Australia and some others.

Analysts said the currency deal reflected the growing strength of the Australian dollar, which recently passed the Swiss franc to be among the five most traded currencies in the world.

"I think it makes perfect sense," Ilya Spivak, from DailyFX, told ABC News.

Ms Gillard has used her five-day trip to announce a trade fair in Shanghai to promote Australian tourism and investment. However, she and her Chinese counterparts have made little progress on a long-stalled free-trade agreement which has been under negotiation for eight years.
