そうそう、もう数年前の「Qi」ですが、「旨み（Umami）」を中国語だと言っていました。
元テレグラフ組のフライ氏ともあろうものが、リサーチャーのこんな間違いを見逃しちゃいかんと思いました。

Japanese children have been exposed to so many artificial additives that they are suffering "taste numbness", despite the country being famed for its super-healthy diet of raw fish and vegetables.
この国は生魚や野菜からなる非常に健康的な食生活で有名であるにも拘らず、日本の子ども達は余りにも多くの添加物にさらされて「味覚音痴」になっている。
Days after Tokyo's restaurants were awarded more stars by the Michelin Guide than any other city, one of Japan's leading food commentators claimed that fizzy drinks and instant meals have replaced such staples as miso soup, grilled fish, rice with minimal seasoning, green tea and fresh vegetables.
東京のレストランが他のどの都市よりも多くの星をミシュラン・ガイドから贈られてから数日後、炭酸飲料とインスタント食品が味噌汁、焼き魚、最低限の味付けを施した米飯、緑茶、そして野菜といった主食品に置き換わってしまった、と日本で著名な食品評論家の一人が発言した。
Tsukasa Abe, a former employee of a food additive trading company, writing in Sapio magazine, said that Japanese children now routinely douse the meals that their parents grew up on with ketchup, mayonnaise or soy sauce.

Artificial colouring and flavourings are designed to "give new life to vegetables that are on the brink of being inedible", he said. He believes that "taste numbness" afflicts around 30 per cent of Japanese children.
人工の着色料や調味料は「食べられなくなる寸前の野菜に新たな命を吹き込む」ために作られている、と彼は述べた。

By Western standards, Japan is still a country in which the obese really stand out in society, with a mere 24 per cent of people aged over 16 considered to be overweight - in comparison with 65 per cent in the United States.

But that figure is expected to soar.
