The amount of tritium, a radioactive substance, contained in wastewater discharged from Chinese nuclear power plants in 2021 exceeded the upper limit of the annual discharge of treated water from TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant at 13 of 17 observation points, or 70% of the total, according to Chinese official data released on August 8.
Some plants discharged up to 10 times the treated water from Fukushima Daiichi.
The treated water from Fukushima Daiichi touched the melted-down reactor core, and China has been widely advertising the danger of the water.
