ラッシュアワー時の東京の地下鉄の写真も載っているReader's Digest 7月号の記事、The World's Craziest Commutesに出て来た単語 "riddled" は以前取り上げていますが、その時覚えた意味ではこの場合通じません。

前回覚えた意味用法の "full of holes; He wore an old jacket riddled with holes." の他の意味としては、"spread throughout: Cities riddled with corruption" しか見つからないのですが、Wiktionaryに次ぎの説明がありました。

すると、引用文にある "rapid-riddled torrent" は川のどの部分も流れが急だと言う事を表していると理解します。
