CamusのTHE OUTSIDER、Part One の第３章に出てきた表現です。
A bit later he'd found 'a pawn-ticket' in her room which showed that she'd pawned two bracelets. Until then he hadn't even known these bracelets existed. 'I could tell that there was some deceiving going on. So I left her. But first I hit her. And then I told her a few home-truths.
最後に出てきた単語 "home-truths"の意味が分からないのですが、 "home-" が丁度行の終わりにあり、ハイフンが付いているので、 "home-truths" なのか "hometruths" のスペルのどちらが正しいのか分かりません。　しかし、辞書ではどちらのスペルの単語では載っておらず、 "home truth" あるいは "home truths" で載っていました。

たしかに、自分の欠点など真実であっても人に指摘されるのは余り嬉しい事ではないですね。
また、今度の福島原発事故で　"home truths" がどんどん出てきたら恐ろしいです。
