Executing or discarding thoughts,
these tasks require training.
It cannot be done no matter how strong
one’s willpower or spirit of the gut is.
When I started to study Zazen meditation,
I assumed if my determination was strong enough,
I can manage to cut thoughts easily.
Humans can do anything with their mindset.
After all, it would depend on one's mindset...
It was only after I started practicing Zazen meditation seriously
that I realized those were simply illusions.
Whenever I returned to myself,
I found that I was chasing the tails of my thoughts or memories.
Chasing tails of things,
you can only see the back sides of the matter.
The thoughts leak out from something
like a bag that holds thoughts and
it scatters here and there.
We can barely be precise thought-leaking
unless thoughts are scattered and spread out.
My thoughts are still out of focus
and the focus is blurry.
Just as a camera lens is shaky
due to the cameraman’s concentration being weak,
blurry thoughts are also caused by one’s weakened concentration.
What does it mean to focus?
In other words, it’s about how to be done
and how quickly to get to one point.
Not being able to focus means
there are still points to cut out.
In brief, there are more points than one.
Discarding unnecessary points is
the training of Zazen-meditation, I think…
