ZS8T

2008-03-27 22:27:48 | Weblog
March 26, 2008 - Destination: Marion Island.

Within the past few minutes, Press Officer ZS6DXB has informed the team that Petrus ZS6GCM is onboard the SA Agulhas (South Africa’s polar research vessel). The vessel will be going straight to Marion Island.

Depending on weather, Petrus could be on Marion in as short as five days. However, should the weather deteoriate, there is a fair chance landing on ZS8 could be delayed. The support team will keep you updated as best we can on this. You may like to join us by following the progress of the SA Agulhas

Moments before Petrus boarded the Agulhas, he managed to send through some images from Table Bay. Prior to these pictures, all radio equipment had been safely loaded, with only a few items still to go onboard.

We’d like to remind you that once Petrus is on ZS8, it will take approx three to four weeks before any radio equipment is used. This is due to a changeover time in working patterns and general settling in on the island.

March 26th 2008

Here the latest news from Mauritania.

All stations running well. Many nice QSO in the logs after good propagation last days. Every day about 5000 QSO in log. The Sunspots are now rating higher and lets hope for more good openings on 10m and 12m but the conditions on the lower bands going up and down now.

The Pactor runs und bring us the log from last day every day after. The crew has to fight against any problems wit the 9X0R if they operate on the same frequencies.

The pileups are mixed and many dupes in log.

On lowbands now SSB is running. Please call with your full call and not with last two letters or any two letters or so.

Please if 5T5DC is calling only JA or only Asia please be quiet and don't call if you are not from called zone.

Asia has a very small slot to reach 5T on lowbands, please give Asia a chance too.

Now here a small actual statistic:

EU: 38585 QSOs
AS: 1821 QSOs
AF: 944 QSOs
NA: 16347 QSOs
SA: 991 QSOs
OC: 216 QSOs

DL: 7177 QSOs
JA: 1022 QSOs
EA8: 721 QSOs !!!
USA: 14735 QSOs

More you can see if you call the OnlineLog page.

後21時間でQRTになります。
160mにJA向けQRVするそうですので、JA明日の早朝狙ってみてください。7エリアからは無理だと思いますが、西日本の皆さん、多分できると思います。

March 26th, 2008

Statistics about zones 3,4 & 5 are not accurate, due a well know error of the statistics software.
This will be fixed once we arrive at home, later during this week.

We did thousands of Qsos with zones 3 & 4, that are not reflected on our statistics.

Later today we will close the CW Station #2.
This night we will be again on 160 meters even for JA.

Hello Folks,
Sad News has been received via John 9M6XRO, that Graham Ridgeway M5AAV, went Silent key in hospital this morning. ( Zulu time ).

Graham was a very efficient QSL manager and well respected around the world.
New QSL details for G3OOK, GM3OOK, 9M6XRO and all other callsigns used by John, will be forwarded when known.

Graham was John's QSL Manager for almost 3 years and everyone had a good word for him in that capacity. Over that period John made about 75,000 QSOs and Graham kept on top of the QSLing right to the last. In fact he was only recently discussing the 9M6XRO/P QSL printing for John's OC-133 operation from Labuan on the 16/17th of this month.

Another nice chap gone to the big radio club in the sky!.

JX4A

Very active on 20/40m RTTY today (March 24).

QSL via LA4XEA
Unclear yet whether JX4 callsign is valid.

** further info has come to light via the DX cluster.

LA4RT says he phoned the holder of the callsign, LA4A.

LA4A is a club station callsign inwhich the chairman has no knowledge of any activity on Jan Mayen.

Another bootleg bites the dust.

This night we will be on 160 meters between 20:00 to 20:30 utc.
TX 1824 - RX 1820-1822 for JA

Finally our realtime log project can't be done as we expected, due a poor internet connection, so maybe next time.

We have received some emails requests about missing qsos on the online log, if you are not in the log, work us again.

Our Qsl Manager will check all QSL Requests carefully.

We will be on 160 meters every night until the end of the expedition.

E73TW, ex-T93Y, Boris Knezovic, has an update on the new E7 callsigns
in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The T9 callsigns may still be used until the
end of the year, or until a T9 op exchanges his callsign for an E7
call. Boris says some people with a one-letter-suffix T9 call did not
apply for the intermediate E7 call with a two-letter suffix, waiting
`til they can get a single letter suffix.
