The time of Japan, the time of the world

Efforts to hold it will lead to efforts to regain our society.

The following is from the serial column of Yoshiko Sakurai, who brings the weekly Shincho released today to a successful conclusion.
This paper also proves that she is a "national treasure" as defined by Saicho and a supreme national treasure.
It is a must-read not only for the people of Japan but also for people around the world.
In the background of the controversy over the cancellation of the Olympics, there is a stirring political situation.
On May 17, the Asahi Shimbun reported on the front page of its morning edition on the left shoulder, "Suga Cabinet Support Plummets to 33%. The subhead read, "73% not convinced of 'safe and secure Olympics.
The Asahi Shimbun has criticized Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga's measures against the Wuhan virus, including the declaration of a state of emergency, the application of priority measures to prevent the spread of the virus, and the acquisition of vaccines, in its pages, editorials, and columns.
On April 17, it seemed to rejoice in the plummeting approval ratings and the increasing opposition to the Olympics.
Kazuo Shii, the chairman of the Japan Communist Party, has called for the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics. Yukio Edano, the president of the CDP, has endorsed the idea, creating a structure that Asahi and Mainichi seem to support.
Magazines, including the Shukan Bunshun, which carried Kotaro Sawaki's "Sad Olympics," have also come out strongly against holding the Olympics.
With two months to go until the Games' opening, the pressure to cancel the Games is only increasing, but is there any evidence that the Wuhan virus will spread if the Olympics are held?
We will soon find out to what extent the Tokyo Games will be limited to spectators or no spectators.
In the meantime, the following "bubble system" has already been decided for the acceptance of athletes.
The athletes will be wrapped in a bubble from when they enter the country until they return home.
In other words, the athletes will be asked to stay in their accommodations and refrain from going out once they arrive in Japan, and it will limit travel to practices and games to private vehicles.
After the games' opening, athletes who have been eliminated from the games will be asked to return home in order.
On May 14, Prime Minister Suga said that the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics would restrict the activities of foreigners entering the country.
"If they violate the agreement, we are considering ordering them to leave the country. We are taking steps to ensure that they act differently from the general public and that there is no mutual contact."
Suga also said that the medical system for the Games is being adjusted so as not to interfere with local medical services.
Pfizer Inc. has decided to provide the vaccine free of charge to athletes and others involved in the Games. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases has released an analysis showing a 60% decrease in reported cases of infection after 14 days of vaccination by the company.
In the case of Japan, of the 1.1 million healthcare workers vaccinated by April 11, 281 had developed the disease.
As of May 17, at the time of writing this column, the vaccination rate is increasing and is expected to be effective.
She's starting to aim for the prime minister's seat.
However, Tomoko Tamura, a member of the Communist Party, argued in NHK's "Sunday Debate" on May 16, "The government has no choice but to decide that it can no longer be held.
They are trying to overthrow the Suga administration and remain opposed to it.
Both Naomi Osaka and Kei Nishikori are worried about holding the Games.
In the midst of all this, I find myself most sympathetic to the words of Paralympic swimming ace Keiichi Kimura, who said on February 24, "Efforts to hold it will lead to efforts to regain our society. I think it is almost equal to the effort to contain the virus. "The effort to have the event without making any sacrifices," the effort we are trying to make, should be an effort to turn our society in the right direction."
Opposition to the event, which is in step with the claims of the Communist Party and CDP, seems to be linked to the movement of the political situation.
On April 14, political journalist Fumito Ishibashi pointed out on "Discourse TV.
"The increase in the number of infected people and the decline in the approval rating of the Cabinet are in direct proportion. Seeing that, Shii said against the Olympics, but both the Communist Party and the CDP are outfielders after all. What is worrisome is the strange movement of the governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike."
On May 9, after the holidays, the Tokyo Citizens First Association, or Koike's handlers, started an online petition asking the prime minister to strengthen waterfront measures.
"I suspect that they are collecting signatures to say, We are not confident that the government's measures can contain Corona as the host city so that we will give it back. Against this backdrop, on May 11, Ms. Koike revisited Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai.
It explained that she wanted to ask for the government's support because funds were tight due to vaccination and business closure requests. But I think it's different.
She has excellent intuition.
I think she was trying to figure out whether or not the dissolution of the Diet was close by watching Nikai-san's face.
Ms. Koike has always created an argumentative composition with the government to increase centripetal force.
However, her demand to reduce the number of commuter trains was so unpopular that JR decided to increase the number of trains during the holidays.
She brought the governors of the three prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area to the Prime Minister's Office like Momotaro, but Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa exposed Koike's "lies."
Her past methods have been seen through and are no longer working.
Instead of dying as a governor, she may have started aiming to return to national politics and become prime minister.
If she is aiming for the prime ministership, it is not surprising that she sees the cancellation of the Olympics as an opportunity for a comeback.
They say that the government's protection measures at ports and airports are too insecure about holding the event and shifting the government's blame.
All the criticism will go to Mr. Suga, who has done nothing wrong.
Mr. Suga may be forced to step down."
Lack of virtue.
It is a development that I don't think is possible, but who on earth will follow her?
Mr. Ishibashi asserts that political parties and politicians suffering from low approval ratings will follow the forces with the highest probability of getting elected with the least amount of publicity.
Mr. Ishibashi says that Ms. Koike knows the calculations of political parties and the psychology of their members.
"Ms. Oike and Ichiro Ozawa are very similar in essence. First of all, they have a keen sense of how to seize power. It was Mr. Ozawa's power that knocked down the LDP and brought it to power. And now, it is Mr. Ozawa who holds the pipe between The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and the Communist Party. Besides Mr. Ozawa, Ms. Oike has been watching the power struggle in the political world like a disciple."
Mr. Ishibashi declared that both people have in common that they have no idea what they want to do after they take power.
I agree.
Ms. Koike ran for governor of Tokyo after failing to become Japan's first female prime minister.
It may have been because Koike, who had no support from her fellow Diet members, realized that as long as she stayed in the LDP, she would not be able to become president or prime minister.
However, if she wants to make another flower blossom in national politics, she will probably consider using the Olympics.
If one of the ways to do so is to collect signatures online, as pointed out by Mr. Ishibashi, it would be outrageous.
She is the governor of the host city that requested the Olympics.
It shouldn't be stopped to return to the political situation.
It is Koike's lack of virtue as a politician that leads to such suspicion.
I would like to see her make more efforts to serve the people of Tokyo and Japan truly.
The fight against the Wuhan virus will not be easy, but vaccinations are on the rise.
The Japanese do Hand-washing and "dense" avoidance.
In my opinion, we can control the virus.
So, once again, I would like to chew on Mr. Kimura's words that the effort to hold the games to reclaim our society, contain the virus, and point our community in the right direction.
Rather than using the Olympics for the political situation, I hope for a sparing effort to complete the Olympics successfully.
