ねむの木学園の今年のカレンダーが妹から送られてきました。時期を外れた贈り物ですがこれにはわけがあります。
義弟は宮崎県の仕事に深く関わっていましたが、今は県庁をリタイアして福祉関連の仕事のみをしています。毎年この時期になると、東京で行われる石井十次賞の授与式に参加するため上京します。
石井十次は宮崎県高鍋藩の藩士の息子として生まれ、日本で最初に岡山孤児院を創設し児童福祉の父とよばれている人物です。
１９９０年に石井十次顕彰会によりこの賞が創設され、毎年石井十次の精神を継承し、福祉活動に尽力している団体にこの賞が送られます。
ねむの木学園の宮城まりこさんも毎年参加されますが、その時このカレンダーをいただいたそうです。
学園の子供たちが描いた情緒豊かな絵が夢の世界に引き込んでくれます。
障害のある子たち、不幸な家庭環境の子供、貧困にあえぐ子供たちを受け入れ育んでいる人たちに光をあて賞賛を送ることは素晴らしいことだと思います。
I received this year's calendar from my sister. It is not the ideal time for sending one but there is a special reason for it. My brother-in-law (my sister's husband) used to be very much involved in the business of Miyazaki prefecture. But he has retired now and presently involved in social civic works.
At this time every year he attends a ceremony held in Tokyo to give awards to the organization that are dedicated for social welfare. This is called the Ishii Juji Award named in honor of the man who established the first orphanage in Japan. A former famous singer Mariko Miyagi attends this ceremony without fail every year. She opened up the school for the disabled and handicapped children many years ago. She brought the calendar adorned by pictures drawn by her students. They are so beautiful that my sister wanted me to have one.
I have so much respect for people who work hard to help and save the less fortunate children.
