high-tech toilet

トイレの事を話題にしたばかりで再びトイレの話をするのは恐縮ですが、１１月１５日付のThe Japan Times (online)に日本が誇る（？）ハイテクトイレの記事があったので、ハイテクトイレを英語で何というかが前から気になっている私としては触れざるを得ません。
結論からいうと現時点では一語で通じる英単語は無いと思います。日本ではかなり定着していると思われるWashletは東陶の商標で、競合の各社は別の名称を使用しており、記事ではINAXのShower-toiletにも触れていますが、温水自動洗浄便座（これも正式な日本語名かどうか怪しいのですが少なくとも通じるでしょう）のことをWashlet、あるいはhigh-tech toiletと言っても日本に来て体験した人でないと通じないでしょう。従って、外国人には説明するしかありません。記事では次のような説明をしています。

（この文章の "after your business is done" のような婉曲的な言い方は良いですね）

もし米国でも温水自動洗浄便座が普及すればそれに対応した英語が決まるのでしょうね。
