Breakfast at Tiffany's の主人公は語り手ではなく、語り手と同じアパートに住む女性のHolly Golightlyの様だ。Hollyは語り手の事を何故か自分の弟の名前 "Fred" で呼びかけます。次に引用する文は自称作家の語り手 "Fred" が書いた短編小説を朗読しHollyに聴かせた後のHollyの台詞です。
