sock it to someone

Reader's Digestを図書館から毎月借りていますが、以前は５割程度の記事しか読まなかったのですが、最近は読者の声欄、編集者のコラムなどを含め全体の９割近くを読むようになりました。　今日取り上げる表現は９月号のEditor's Letterにありました。
Laughter truly is the best medicene, especially when your reflexologist hits a nerve that sends pain shooting straight to your eyeballs, only you can't sock it to him because he's old and wizened and demands your respect. The only thing you can do is laugh at the act of sheer stupidity for voluntarily submitting to podiatric persecution.
日本でも最近 "reflexology" の看板やチラシを良く見かける様になりましたが、肩こりや腰痛に無縁なので興味はありません。むしろマッサージされるのはくすぐったいので嫌いです。床屋で頭をマッサージする店もありますが、いつも断っています。もっとも最近は千円床屋しかいかないので、幸い断る必要はありません。
文中の "sock it to" ですが、"sock" の動詞の用法は知らないので意味が分かりません。動詞 の "sock" を辞書で見ます。

強く殴る意味があるのですね。しかし、この意味での用法は古い俗語とあるのと "sock it to" の "it" があるのが気になるので "sock it to" で慣用句ではないかと調べると、ありました。

スラングとの前置きがありますが、現在の雑誌で使われているので、すたれた慣用句ではないようです。
