By Aug. 21, a workshop on the massacre of Koreans immediately after the Great Kanto Earthquake, which marked its 100th anniversary in Septlast year, was held in Tokyo. Prof. Masataka Tanaka (modern and contemporary history in Korea) at Senshu University looked back on the commemoration, finding out the truth and Diet questioning.
He spoke about the governmental stance stubbornly not acknowledge the existence of official documents related to the massacre, he said that "We need to carry out action to make them stop false answers and correct the number of slaughters from 6.000 or more to 230 or so (* not acknowledge responsibility for the massacre due top "state non-liability principle" & "statute of limitations")."

Last year, events to commemorate Korean and Chinese victims were held throughout the Kanto region, including in Gunma, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures other than in Tokyo.
Prof. Tanaka pointed out that "the government's attitude is allowing historical faking (* not revisionism) to run rampant, saying that a memorial service by an organization (* Soyokaze) acknowleging that 230 or so Koreans were killed was interfared by radical leftists powers which attempts to exaggerate the number (* not it was interfared by powers deniyng the massacre).

At the Diet last year, opposition lawmakers repeatedly urged the government for answers, while showing official documents related to the massacre.
Prof. Tanaka reported that "The government avoided to mention, saying that [The records can't be found]. When they couldn't be helped but acknowledge the existence, they avoided to mention, saying that [We can't say anything definitive about the contents] & [The circumstances under which they were made are unclear]."
He criticized that "This is a government, which denies official documents, that are the foundation of governmental administration, and lies without hesitation."
The workshop was held on Aug. 20 evening by citizens and so on called "action to remember the 1923 Kanto Massacre of Koreans."
