TOEIC Part 7リーディングに必要なスキル - Skimming&Scanningを強化するトレーニング

2011-06-30 08:02:08 | TOEICテスト対策
Good morning and thank you for your time to visit!
Today, I’d like to introduce a training to improve skimming & scanning skills, which are necessary to get a higher TOEIC score in the TOEIC Part 7.
*A related episode to this subject is here:
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/853a0213ee7ff052fd430f65d3564aa1
The theme of today’s training is to improve reading skills!
To improve reading skills, especially to get a higher TOEIC score, you should use these "Skimming" and "Scanning" skills.
As you probably know, but "Skimming" means "to read quickly to get the point" and "Scanning" means "to pick up some necessary information."
Now, let's take a couple of minutes to get used to these two skills with a real reading material "Eight nutrition habits to boost brain power" from Yahoo Canada.
Link: http://ca.shine.yahoo.com/eight-nutrition-habits-boost-brain-power-040000700.html
Let's see TOEIC Part 7 style questions.
1. What food is good as afternoon snack?
2. How often should people eat fish to keep younger memory function and thinking ability ?
3. What should we do when we think?
Did you try "skimming" and "scanning"?
Now, check the answers...
1. Berries
2. At least once a week
3. Chew gum
It takes sometime to get used to skimming and scanning, so try to read English every day!!

1. What food is good as afternoon snack?
2. How often should people eat fish to keep younger memory function and thinking ability ?
3. What should we do when we think?

もう一度、"skimming" と "scanning"のスキルを使って答えを探してみましょう。

ちなみに答えは上記の英語部にあるので、参考までにどうぞ。

SkimmingとScanningをマスターするのに時間がかかるかもしれませんが、毎日続けるとコツがわかってくると思います。

読む“量”を増やしていきましょう!

それでは今日の英語での一言:"Now's the time for action!"

英語の発音をよくするための音読トレーニングのすすめ

2011-06-29 07:13:47 | 英語学習のポイント&アドバイス
Good morning.
Thank you for your visit to this blog!
Today, I’m going to write about one of English trainings that helps improve English pronunciation.
I learned this knowledge from a famous English instructor and he said there are three essential elements to communicate in English.
The three essential elements are…
・Grammar
・Vocabulary
・Pronunciation
As I stated my idea about grammar and vocabulary in this blog (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/89a76c319859ef13af978a977482e9ea) before,
grammar and vocabulary are very important.
In addition to these two skills, pronunciation is also important because “What you can speak is what you can hear.”
Now, let’s see the training method of how to improve your pronunciation.
1. Prepare a DVD or a book with CD
2. Check the script & Listen to the CD (*try to get the comprehension)
3. Play the CD again & read out loud with the script (*try to imitate)
4. Once again, play the CD & repeat what you hear with the script
5. Play the CD & repeat without the script (Shadowing)
If you continue this training, I’m sure your pronunciation will improve in 3 months! Try!

Enjoy English training!!”

スポーツに関する英語&アメリカの社会問題も学ぶことができる映画で英語学習

2011-06-28 08:10:37 | English Plus英語レッスン受講生のためのレッスン復習トレーニング
How are you doing?
Thank you for your time to read this blog!
Today, I'd like to recommend a good sports movie to learn English.
*The previous movie I introduced in this blog is here:
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/b343b1a3a3060b11a374a517c76830b3
The movie is "Coach Carter", which is a 2005 American film and it is based on a true story.
It is based on a true story, and we can learn a lot of things from the movie, such as social problems related to sports and education in the U.S.
Though it's a bit long movie (136min), the story itself is very interesting, so
we can enjoy it as an entertaiment.
Also, I shouldn't forget to mention that the acting, especially by the main actor Samuel L. Jackson, is great.
From the English learning point of view, we can learn some positive phrases through this movie!.
So, if you are interested in learning English through a movie, try this one!

You get to become a winner!" (By the movie "Coach Carter")

英語学校設立・起業へ向けての弁理士さんとの相談

2011-06-24 07:27:54 | 英語学校設立・創業
Good morning, and thank you for checking out my blog!
Yesterday, after I had an early morning lesson, I visited Chusho-kiko in Toranomon, Tokyo again in order to ask a patent attorney about a registered trademark.
What I found out that what I’m trying to do about a registered trademark is not as difficult or complicated as I first anticipated to handle.
Therefore, I’ve decided to apply for my registered trademark by myself.
However, before I apply for it to the Legal Affairs Bureau, I think I should ask a special patent attorney to get it checked again.
Actually, after I got advice from the patent attorney yesterday, I went to talk to a real estate agency in Tokyo.
Hopefully, what I’m doing is going in the right direction!
P.S. Thank you for your time to check my blog as always! It’s been a year since I started writing this blog! Thanks to you, I've been able to continue writing this blog! Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot for your support!”

P.S. 本日でブログを始めて1年となりました。ブログを読んでくださっている皆様に支えられて1年目を迎えることができました!ありがとうございます!

中小機構での英語学校設立・起業に関しての窓口相談

2011-06-23 05:27:51 | 英語学校設立・創業
Good morning and thank you for checking out this blog!
Yesterday, after lesson, I went to Chusyo-kikosinko in Toranomon, Tokyo for the first time.
The reason I visited there was I had some questions related to my English school, such as a registered trademark, and other business related subjects.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get advice from a patent attorney about a registered trademark, but I was able to talk to one of small and medium enterprise management consults there.
The advice I got yesterday was pretty good that I thought that I can use some for the future!
As usual, I’m going to prepare for my school to get started step by step!

http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/7ce77a5b7e043a5d829ec990cd05d625

昨日は残念ながら、商標登録に関して相談できる弁理士の先生はいらっしゃらなかったのですが、対応していただいた中小企業診断士の先生からは、竹内先生とはまた違ったアドバイスをいただくことができました。

いつものように英語学校設立に向け一歩ずつ確実に前進したいと思います。

それでは今日の英語での一言:"Have a positive mind!"

ビジネスの交渉時に使えるひとこと英語

2011-06-21 07:54:41 | ビジネスでも使える英語&英語表現
Good morning, and thank you for visiting!
Today, let’s learn some useful phrases for business negotiation.
*The related topic to this episode is here:
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/a4d751e21346f5e078e712446803531f
To negotiate in business, there are a lot of ways to negotiate.
However, the basic and fundamental rule is that you ought to use polite expressions.
For instance, when you negotiate, you can say…
・Would it be possible to reduce price?
・Would you give me a discount if I ordered another?
・Could I get a discount if I ordered 100 units?
When you agree to the proposal, you can use these…
・That sounds fine.
・(It looks like we have a) deal.
When you disagree to the proposal, you can say…
・I’m afraid but I can’t accept your offer.
Let’s use polite phrases especially when doing business!

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“ビジネスの交渉時に使えるひとこと英語”です。

*関連記事の“英語講師の留学経験 - スーツケースを買うための値段交渉の巻”はこちら:
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/e/a4d751e21346f5e078e712446803531f

ビジネスで交渉をする時、いろいろな交渉のフレーズがありますが、基本的なポイントは“丁寧な言葉を使う”ことです。

交渉をする時に実際、使えるフレーズとして例えば・・・

・Would it be possible to reduce price?
(値段を下げていただくことは可能でしょうか?)

・Would you give me a discount if I ordered another?
(もう一つオーダーすると、ディスカウントしていただけますか?)

・Could I get a discount if I ordered 100 units?
(100ユニット頼んだとしたら、ディスカウントをしていただくことができますか?)

交渉の提案に対し、賛成であるならば・・・

・That sounds fine.

・(It looks like we have a) deal.

交渉の提案に対し、否定的であるならば・・・

・I’m afraid but I can’t accept your offer.

交渉時に限らず、ビジネスの場では特に丁寧な言葉遣いを心がけましょう。
