3. Drink energy drink before the test.
4. Relax & Do your best.

使えるTOEICテストの結果の表現の仕方

Look at the following model example.
Hiroshi: "How was your TOEIC score?"

If Arata's score is 990, what do you say?
Please check the list below.

"excellent" "great" "good" "fine" "so-so" "bad" "awful" "terrible"
Also, you can use these words in the following conversation.

本日は“使えるTOEICテストの結果の表現の仕方”です。

まずは、TOEICテストの結果について会話をしている時の一コマを見てみましょう。

Hiroshi: "How was your TOEIC score?"（TOEICテストの点数はどうだった？）
Arata: "..."

この時、テストの結果が良ければ（もしくは悪ければ）何と表現するでしょうか？
答えは上記の英語の部分で！！

ちなみに上記の答えは、いつもの挨拶にも使えます！！

Arata: "How are you doing?"（元気？）
Hiroshi: "..."

毎日、違う表現で英語を楽しみましょう！

英語講師おすすめの単語増強法 - 自分専用のオリジナル単語帳を作ろう

Good morning!
Today's topic is "Let's make your original vocabulary book!"

In my private English lesson, I always ask my students to bring a notebook for the lesson.
During the lesson, sometimes my students ask me questions related to vocabulary - for instance, "what do you say sekinin (責任) in English?"
Though I answer the vocabulary question soon after they ask me, I check it again at the end of the lesson as a feedback.
So, they have another chance to learn & review the vocabulary and I don't need to remind them to write down those words; they just take a note by their own will in the lesson.
Eventually, it'll become their original vocabulary book!
So, I recommend to those who are learning English that you make your own notebook for vocabulary and whenever you have a question "What should I say...?", you should look it up in the dictionary, then you should take a note!
Actually, the most importnat point is you use it to review with it regularly though!!

現在、カフェなどでTOEICやビジネス英語などのレッスンをしていますが、毎回レッスン時には、各自ノートを持参してもらっています。

各自ノートを持参していただいる大きな理由は一つ。

“ボキャブラリー（単語）を増やすため”です。

レッスンでは“各自の最近の事”や“時事問題についての自分の意見”を言う時間を設けていますが、その中で“どうしてもこれを言いたいけれど、単語がわからない”ということが多々あります。

この時には生徒の方々はこの質問をしてきます。

"What do you say "sekinin" in English?"
（英語で“責任”は何と言いますか？）

講師として、時に他の生徒の方の反応を見て、他の生徒の方から答えを引き出すこともあれば、すぐに答えを与えることもあります。
（ちなみに“責任”は"responsibility"です）

答えがわかった後、自分のレッスンでは、授業の終わりではもう一度、出てきた単語をクイズ形式で復習します。

この時に自分の生徒の方々は、自ら自分のノートに単語を書いてくれます。
（授業中に自分の発言したボキャブラリーなので、今後もその単語を使う可能性は実際高く、何回もノートを見ている方もいます）

そして、書き取ったノートが“自分の財産となる世界で一つのオリジナル単語帳”になります！

今現在、英語を自己学習で勉強している方も、単語を調べることがあれば定期的に、単語専用のオリジナル単語帳に書き留めておくことをおすすめします！！
（後々、また同じものを使うことになる可能性大です）

一番大切なのは、その世界で一つのオリジナルの単語帳を定期的に見直すことです！！

英語学校起業に向けてのプレゼンテーション

Hi, good morning!
Last night, I attended a business seminar in Kawasaki.

This business seminar consists of 10 times, and there is only one more left on Nov. 6th.
Nov. 6th is the day we all seminar attendees will have to make a presentation with their original business plans!!
As for the presentation, I learned how to give a good presentation in the seminar yesterday.
There are some key words to give a good presentation, such as...
"short"
"conclusion first"
"no pronouns"
and so on...
Also thanks to the lecturer Mr. Koji Takeuchi, I had a chance to read a sentence out loud during the seminar, and I was able to learn how to use my voice! (like how to use my tone, accent, and rhythm)
I need training on my voice every day from now on to give a good presentation on the next Saturday!!

川崎で毎週水曜日の夜に行われている、中小企業診断士・竹内幸次先生による“川崎起業家塾”も１１月６日（土）を残し、残り１回となりました。（全１０回）

１１月６日は最終発表、プレゼンテーションがあり、セミナー参加者全員がパソコンを使い、プレゼンテーションをする日になっています。

昨夜のセミナーの中では、来週のプレゼンテーションのための“コツ”を学ぶことができました。

いろいろとポイントはありますが、主なコツとしましては・・・

“短く”
“結論を先に”
“代名詞を使わない”
などで、これらのコツを使うことで、より良いプレゼンテーションができることを学びました。

また、昨夜のセミナーの中では、プレゼンテーションを行うために必要な“声”の効果的な使い方を学ぶこともできました。

自分は、個人的に声が（緊張すると）フラットになってしまうことがあるので、そこでしっかりと“イントネーション”をつけることや“語尾を下げる”といったことを、セミナー講師である竹内幸次先生にご指摘いただき、そのお陰で身をもって体験することができました！

これから１週間、毎日発声トレーニングをすると同時に、パソコンでプレゼンテーションを用意し、しっかりと来週土曜日のプレゼンテーションに備えたいと思います！！

本日も前向きに一歩前進です！！

As the title says, the contents of this movie is related to alcohol and hangover...
Maybe, I shouldn't say much about the story, but it's about a bachelor party.

タイトルがhangover（二日酔い）とついていることから推測できるように、この映画では“お酒”と“二日酔い”がキーワードになっています。

ストーリーは上にあるYou Tubeで確認していただければ、おわかりかと思いますが、バチェラーパーティー（結婚前に男友達のみでお祝いするパーティー）に関してのコメディー映画です。

様々な“生”の英語の表現やボキャブラリーが学べること間違いなしの映画ですので、英語学習からの点においても、見て損はない一本です！

In this "Instant Useful English", you can learn very short but useful expressions!!
Ok, now imagine the following situation...
You want your busy boss to check your document and get his sign on it, but your boss is about to leave the office because of his next appointment.
In this case, what would you say?
(If it's really urgent, you can say...)
"Wait!"
(But, if "Wait!" sounds too strong, you can say...)
"Sorry, sir. I know you are busy, but could you check out this document and sign here at the bottom?"
If you have this kind of situation, please use them!!

英語講師の留学経験 （NBA - トロント・ラプターズ 編）

How did you spend your weekend?
Did you happen to go watching or playing sports?
Why I brought up the subject of sports is today is that I'd like to write about my study-abroad experience, NBA.

In Toronto, there are a lot of professional sports we can watch, such as baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA), hockey (NHL), soccer (MLS), and so on.
Actually, it's very hard to get NHL tickets because of its popularity.
However, compared with NHL, NBA tickets are still easy to get and not so expensive if you choose the upper floor sheet.
Personally, I watched Toronto Raptors, which is Toronto's NBA team, twice when I was in Toronto.
I thought watching the live game was much better than watching through TV because it's more exciting if it's really close game!!

Unfortunately this season, there seems to be no star player since Chris Bosh, former star player of Raps, left Toronto and a lot of people say Raps have little chance to go to the play off...
However, if you like basketball and have a chance to visit Toronto, please go cheer them up!!

トロントでは野球・ホッケー・サッカー・今回取り上げるバスケットボールなどたくさんのプロスポーツが観戦できます。

実際、ホッケーは物凄い人気でチケット入手は困難ですが、NBA（バスケットボール）は比較的手に入れやすく、また値段も席を選ばなければ、それほど高くありません。

自分もトロントで住んでいた時は、２度観戦する機会がありました。
やはり、ライブでの観戦はとても興奮しました。（特に接戦の場合）

今シーズンは元ラプターズのスター“クリス・ボッシュ”選手が移籍してしまったこともあり、スター不在のままシーズンを迎えることになりそうです。
また、雑誌などでは今年もプレイオフ進出の可能性は低いとのこと・・・

そんなラプターズですが是非、英語を勉強し、生のゲームを見に行って応援しましょう！！

英語講師のレッスン中のエピソード - 英語を話せばモテ期到来？

How're you doing?
Today, also I'm writing with this style, English first then Japanese.
The topic today is "an episode from my student during lesson"
I had a lesson with one of my students the other day, and we asked each other some questions about our recent news.
The student's work environment requires English, and she needs to use English some time.
Needless to say, her co-workers also have to use English, so she said currently some of her co-workers are learning English.
One day, her co-worker asked her in English "Is there a pencil sharpener?" in a very small voice.
She was very surprised with this incident because he usually has a big voice in Japanese!!
She was really astonished by this gap and she thought when he spoke English, he was kind of cute!!
(According to her, he recently learned "there is / there are" and it seemed he wanted to try to use it)
When I heard this story, I thought his approach to use English is great!
I mean his approach to try to use something new he's just learned is fantastic!
Like him, "Don't be afraid to make mistakes!!"
Maybe if you speak English, you'll become more popular someday!

本日も“英語→日本語のスタイル”で“レッスン中のエピソード - 英語を話せばモテ期到来？”をお送りします。

先日のレッスンの中で、面白いお話を伺うことができました。
話をしてくださったご本人にお聞きし、このブログの中で書いてもよいと快く了承していただいた、“英語に関わるエピソード”をご紹介したいと思います。

その生徒の方（女性）の職場は英語を使う環境で、必然的に英語を使う必要性があり、その方同様、周囲の同僚の方も英語を学んでいるようです。

ある日、一人の同僚の方が彼女にとても小さな声で“Is there a pencil sharpener?"と聞いてきたそうです。
普段、日本語ではとても大きな声を出すその同僚の方のギャップに、彼女は驚いたと同時に、英語を話す時のシャイな姿がキュートだと感じたそうです。
（その同僚の方は最近、"there is / there are"を習い、実際に使ってみたかったようです）

この話を聞いた時、２つ思ったことがありました。

１つめは“その同僚の方の英語に対する姿勢はとても良い”ということです。
“学んだものをすぐ使う”ということはとても大切です。

２つめは“英語を話すと思いがけないことが起きる”ということです。
もしかしたら知らないところで、すごく人気者になっていたりするかもしれません。

英語学校設立へのステップ

Hi, this is Arata.
Today, I'm writing my blog in English first! (and Japanese below)
So, some people may get confused...but, I hope you enjoy reading it!!
Yesterday, I went to a tradeshow in Ikebukuro to check some stuff to promote sales, such as novelties, brochures, (school) signs, and so on.
The trade show was called "International premium incentive show", which was held from Oct 20th to Oct 22nd.
I had never attended one like that, so it was very interesting and informative to me!!
In there, I was able to get a lot of interesting ideas!
I also learned an important lesson that "Action (=going out) is really important when wanting to do business!"
So, I will act today too in order to reach my dream!!

なので今回、少し違和感を感じる方もいらっしゃるかもしれませんが、最初は英語版に挑戦していただき、その後、日本語版でチェックしていただけますと、少し違う読み方ができて面白いと思います。

さて、本日は“英語学校設立へのステップ”です。

昨日、レッスンの合間に池袋において開催されていた“インターナショナル プレミアム・インセンティブショー”（１０月２０日～２２日）を見学してきました。

このショーでは販売促進に役立つ様々なグッズ（ノベルティ・パンフレット・看板など）を見ることができました。

販促グッズの見本市は以前、一度も行ったことがなかったので、とても貴重な経験ができると同時に、自分の英語学校設立のためのアイディアを得ることができました。

何より、一番大きな収穫は“起業には行動が必要”ということを再認識できたことは、とても有意義でした。

本日もしっかりと起業へ一歩前進します！！

英語力アップに必要な３種の神器

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語力アップに必要な３種の神器”です。

英語を学習するに際し、誰もが必要とするものはありますが、個人的に、英語講師として、また英語学習者として“英語力を伸ばすのに絶対に必要な物”を３つ挙げるとすれば以下の物になります。

１つめは・・・（電子）辞書！！
わからないところを調べるのに絶対必要！！
英和・和英・英英の３辞典あるのが理想。

２つめは・・・自分専用の単語ノート！！
サイズも形も何でも構いません。（今、持っているものでOK）
とにかく、気付いたものから書き取っていき、自分で毎日、（もしくは毎週）復習できるように愛着がもてる物がGood!

最後の１つは・・・MP3プレーヤー
いつでも空き時間を見つけたら、即、英語を聞く習慣をつける！！
英語コミュニケーションの基礎となるリスニング力アップに必須！！

“宝の持ち腐れ”ではもったいないので、是非、有効活用し、英語力アップに役立たせましょう！！

Good morning.
Today, I'd like to write about "three very important pieces of stuff to improve your English."
Of course, there are some things that are important when we learn English; however, personally as an English teacher and English learner, the next three are the most important:
1. (Electorical) dictionary: it's necessary to look up what you don't know or understand. The ideal one should have Japanese-English, English-Japanese, and English-English.
2. Notebook to write down vocabulary or sentences: its size or shape doesn't matter. What you have now is fine, but it should be your favorite one because you need to use it again and again to review every day.
3. MP3 player: whenever you have spare time, you should listen to English. Try to get used to listening to English with MP3 player because listening skill is the most essential part to communicate in English!!
You know, "unused treasure is a waste of treasure", so use these and improve your English!!
