英語力アップに多読!! クリスマスの季節におすすめの本

Good morning!
It's only about a month until Christmas, and today, I'd like to introduce a good English book for Christmas season.

The book I'd like to recommend today is...
"How Santa Really Works"
(written by Alan Snow, published by Aladdin paperbacks)
This book is intended basically for kids, however, it can be enjoyed with adults because this book reveals "everything about Santa!!"
For example..."Where Santa lives, How Santa knows what you want, and so on."
After you read this book, I'm pretty sure you want to tell some facts about Santa to your friends!!
The English used in the book is not too difficult, so why don't you give it a try?

今日おすすめする本は・・・
"How Santa Really Works" です。
(著者： Alan Snow　出版社： Aladdin paperbacks)

この"How Santa Really Works" という本は、子供向けの本ですが、大人でも十分に楽しめる内容になっています。

なぜなら、この本では“サンタのすべて”についてわかりやすい英語で学べるからです。
（例：“サンタはどこに住んでいるのか？”や“サンタはどのように一人一人の子供の欲しい物を知るのか？”などです）

この本を読んだ後、友達に“サンタのことを伝えたくなること”間違いなしです！

英語も比較的、平易な点＋絵も描かれている、ので手に取りやすいと思います。

毎日英語化計画 - 電車に関する単語を使ってのトレーニング

Good Sunday morning!
How are you going to spend this beautiful day today?
Today, I’d like to introduce some vocabulary related to train and also introduce a training using it.
As you know, there are a lot of different types of trains in Japan.
For example...
“Kaisoku-kyuko = rapid express”
“Tokubetsu-kyuko = limited express”
“Kyuko = express”
“Jun-kyu = semi express”
“Kakueki = local”
“Shinkansen = bullet train”
Now, you can start training with the vocabulary, which I’ve just introduced above, by making a sentence in your mind.
For example:
“I usually take an express train to Tokyo.”
“Last night I drank a lot and missed several local trains.”
I hope this topic is somehow useful in your life to improve your English!

トレーニングとして、これらの単語を使って文章を作ってみましょう。
（単語のみを暗記するのではなく、文章にすると英語の基礎力 - 単語力・文法力がつきます！！）

例えば、“I usually take an express train to work.”など、最初は簡単な文から始めてみましょう！！

TOEICのリスニングのスコアがリーディングのスコアより上の方は必読!! 多読のすすめ

Nice Saturday morning, and thank you for your checking my blog!
Today’s topic is “How to continue reading every day!”
Through my teaching experience, especially teaching at a conversation school, I’ve met a lot of students whose TOEIC Listening score is much higher than its Reading score.
It’s because in usual English conversation school, they inevitably focus on speaking and listening, and not much on reading and writing.
TOEIC test mainly checks your knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and reading skill as well as listening skill.
Therefore, if your TOEIC Listening score is lower than its Reading score, you need to strengthen your vocabulary, grammar and reading skill by reading!!
Here are some “Reading” keys that you should keep in mind:
1. Choose an easy book (that contains 1 or 2 unknown words in every 50 words)
2. Continue reading every day
3. Make reading part of your daily routine
Hopefully, in the future, your TOEIC score improves and gets a better result than your current TOEIC score with this reading practice!!

本日は“TOEICのリスニングのスコアがリーディングのスコアより上の方は必読!! 多読のすすめ”です。

英語講師としての経験を通して（特に英会話学校で教えていた時に多かったのですが）たくさんのTOEICのリスニングのスコアがリーディングのスコアより遥かに高かった方を見てきました。

理由は明白で、英会話学校では自ずと“話す・聞く”に重点を置くためです。

TOEICテストでは、“聞く”を重点にしている他、主に“語彙力・文法力＋読む力”が試されます。

この違いにより、リスニングのスコアがリーディングのスコアより高くなってしまう方が多い結果が出てしまいます。

英語講師として、この問題点を解決するために最もおすすめのトレーニング方法は“Reading = 読むこと”です。

Readingのポイントとしましては・・・

１．簡単に読める英語の本を選ぶこと（基準は50単語に1もしくは2つの知らない単語が出てくる程度）
２．毎日読むこと
３．読むことを続けて、毎日の日課にしてしまうこと

Reading（読むこと）で、しっかりTOEICスコアに反映させられるよう、毎日続けましょう！

英語学校設立へのステップ - 不動産屋さん巡りの旅

Good morning and thank you for checking this blog!
Yesterday, I visited some real estate agencies in Kawasaki to get some information about if there are some suitable properties available for my English school around Shinmaruko,Motosumiyoshi, and Musashikosugi.
The real estate agents whom I talked with were so kind that they gave me a lot of useful information.
One piece of information I got was there is really very little vacant space around Musashikosugi area right now.
However, the positive aspect of my English school is that I still have about 4 months to go.
So, I need to keep looking around for the best location for my English school.
What I should do now is to act positively towards my dream!!

昨日、英語学校設立のカギとなる立地調査のため、川崎の不動産屋さんを巡って来ました。

昨日は５～６件の不動産屋さんと幾つかの物件（武蔵小杉・新丸子・元住吉）を巡ることができました！！
（対応していただいた不動産屋さんの方々は総じて皆親切で、とても丁寧に対応していただき、とても感謝しております）

昨日一日で、本当にいろいろな情報を入手することができたのですが、一番驚いたのが、“現在、武蔵小杉には希望の物件と重なるものがほとんどない・・・”という事実です。

ポジティブな面を見れば、まだ多少なりとも時間はあるので、ベストの立地を選択できるよう毎日これから時間を見つけてはいろいろとチェックしようと思います。

英語学校設立に向け今日も一日前向きに一歩前進です。

英語を読もう - 英雑誌The Economistも注目する日本の高齢化社会への挑戦

Hi!
Yesterday, when I surfed on the web, I found an interesting magazine article about Japan, so today I'd like to introduce this article from "The Economist" published on Nov. 20th, 2010.

The main theme of this article is about "Japan's ageing society", and the article mentions "Japan's workforce in the future", "Japan's economy in the future", "how Japan handles this ageing situation", "optimistic view about future Japan" and so on.
I personally found this magazine article interesting because not only I was able to know another country's view point about Japan's ageing society, but also there are some developed countries that would have the same situation as Japan.
This article has surely made me think that "we, each and every one of us who are in Japan, have to think optimistically about our future and act! - e.g. Japan should accept more and more immigrants."
I hope you enjoy reading English and this magazine article is useful as well as interesting for you!

昨日、インターネットを見ていたら興味深い記事を見つけました。

上記のリンクをクリックして読んでいただけると、おわかりいただけるかと思いますが、この記事では“日本の高齢化社会に関連する将来の日本経済のこと”や“どのように日本が高齢化社会に対処していくのか”などが書いてあります。

この記事を読むことで、他国の人がどのように“高齢化社会を迎える日本”を
捉えているのか、また“他の先進国もやがて迎える高齢化社会に、まずは日本がどのように対処していくのか”などいろいろと興味深く読むことができると思います。

この記事を読んで個人的に思うことは、“一人一人の日本にいる人間が、日本の将来をポジティブに捉え、前向きに行動することが必要（例：さらなる移民の受け入れなど）”ということです。

英語が少し身近になる数のトリビア

Good morning.
Today, I'd like to start with a question!
Question: What is the connection among the following words?
"bicycle"
"octopus"
"pentagon"
"monorail"
Can you guess the connections?
It seems no relations among these, but there is one relation!
The answer is that "these words are related to numbers".
You probably know that English derives from Greek and Latin.
These prefix "bi" "octo" "penta" "mono" mean some numbers.
For example, "bi" means "2", "octo" means "8", "penta" means "5", and "mono" means "1".
That's why "octopus" has "8" legs!
Even if you don't know some vocabulary while reading or listening, you might be able to guess the meanings with this number trivia!!
I hope this trivia is interesting and useful for your English life!!

いきなりですが、今日はクイズを出題したいと思います。

Question: 次の４つの単語の共通することは何でしょうか？

"bicycle"
"octopus"
"pentagon"
"monorail"

ちなみにこの４つの単語の意味は大丈夫でしょうか？
（上から“自転車・蛸・アメリカ国防総省（ペンタゴン）・モノレール）

何も関係性がないように思えますが、“１点”共通点があります。

答えは・・・すべて“数”に関係している単語ということです。

ご存知かも知れませんが、英語はラテン語とギリシャ語に由来しており、これらの接頭辞“bi”や“octo”は数に関係している言葉です。
（bi="2", octo="8", penta="5",mono= "1"）

なので、bicycleは“２つの車輪＝自転車”という意味になります。
（さらなるトリビアになりますが、monocycleで“１つの車輪＝一輪車”、tricycleで“３つの車輪＝三輪車”という意味の英単語になります）

英語の本を読んでいる時、英語を聞いている時、わからない単語が出てきた時、（可能であれば）このトリビアを応用して、英語を一層楽しみましょう！！

Good morning!
How are you doing?
What are you going to do today?
Today, I'm going to introduce a greeting that you can use when you meet someone who you haven't seen for a long time.
Ok, now imagine the next situation.
You are attending a business convention in New York.
You just meet a American friend who you haven't talked for a long time.
What would you say?
It's okay to say...
"How are you doing?"
However, the following expressions must be better...
"How have you been?"
"Long time no see!"
When you meet someone you haven't met for a long time, try these ones!!

Imagine that you and your co-worker are at your office working.
You notice that your co-worker looks nervous.
Actually, your co-worker will have to give his first presentation soon.

英語講師おすすめのTOEIC１週間前直前対策

Hi, it’s chilly, but it’s a good sunday!
How are you doing?
There is only one week left until the next TOEIC test!!
So, today, I’d like to write about "how to improve your TOEIC score dramatically in a week!”
If you haven’t prepared anything for this weekend’s TOEIC test or you just realize that there is only a week left..., I recommend you take a practice test!!
Practice test should be the one published by ETS and the latest one, currently TOEIC Official Test Volume. 4. (TOEIC テスト新公式問題集 Vol.4)
First, try the Listening part of the test. (It takes approximately 45 minutes)
Then, you should check your answer.
Next, listen to the questions again where you have made mistakes, and dictate the sentences.
Finally, check your sentences that you’ve just dictated with the script.
With this training, it takes some time, but I can say it’s very effective and it's one of the best trainings to improve your TOEIC score!!
You still have 1 week, so just keep trying it!
The improvement of the TOEIC score is all up to you!

本日は“英語講師おすすめのTOEIC１週間前直前対策”です。

１１月２７日の第回テストまで１週間余りとなりました。

“今週のテストに向けて何もTOEICテスト対策をしていない人”や、“あと１週間しかないと焦っている方”におすすめの対策が“TOEIC テスト新公式問題集 Vol.4”のリスニングを使ってのトレーニングです。

トレーニング方法としましては・・・

１．まずは、リスニングの部分のテストを集中して受けてみる（約４５分）
２．テスト後、答えをチェックする
３．間違えた問題を聞き直し、間違えたところの問題のみディクテーション（書き取り）をする
４．ディクテーションしたものをチェックする

この４つのトレーニングは時間がかかりますが、とても効果的です！！

まだ１週間あります！！
まずは“トレーニングの１”からチャレンジしましょう！！
