Today, let’s learn how to read price (numbers) correctly!

As I mentioned in the link above, it’s important to read numbers correctly in our lives.
This fact is especially true when we think about money!
However, there are two ways to read price in English, so let’s learn how to read price in English today and we should get used to price!
For example…
$1.50 = one dollar and fifty cents OR one-fifty
$2.99 = two dollars and ninety nine cents OR two-ninety nine
$140 = one hundred forty dollars OR one hundred forty
Now, let’s try some quiz!
1. $4.75
2. $15.50
3. $109.95
4. $1875.50
Did you handle the price well?
Here are the answers…
1. four dollars and seventy five cents OR four seventy five
2. fifteen dollars and fifty cents OR fifteen-fifty
3. one hundred nine dollars and ninety five cents OR one hundred nine-ninety five
4. one thousand and eight hundred seventy five dollars and fifty cents OR one thousand and eight hundred seventy five-fifty

特に、お金のやりとりに関してはとても大事だと思います。

英語で値段を表現する時には、２つのパターンがあります。

難しくはありませんが、慣れるまで少しトレーニングが必要だと思いますので、今日は値段を正しく読むトレーニングをしていきたいと思います。

例えば・・・

$1.50 = one dollar and fifty cents OR one-fifty
$2.99 = two dollars and ninety nine cents OR two-ninety nine
$140 = one hundred forty dollars OR one hundred forty

というように２つのパターンで表すことができます。

それではここでクイズです。

以下４つの値段はどのように読むでしょうか？

1. $4.75

2. $15.50

3. $109.95

4. $1875.50

いかがでしょうか？

正しく値段は読めたでしょうか？

答えは上記の英語の部分にありますので、参考までにどうぞ。

日本での日常の買い物でも英語で値段を考えるようにしてみましょう！

３０秒あればできる英語スピーキング力向上のためのトレーニング

The training I’ll introduce now is easy to carry out, so anyone who has 30 seconds can do it!!
Now, let’s see how.
“While looking at things around you or watching TV, talk about English words or sentences for 30 seconds (non-stop).”
The point of this training is that you can say anything that comes to your mind OR state your opinions about the things or TV programs.
If you continue this training for 30 seconds every day, I’m sure your speaking ability will improve!
If you don’t have so much chance to speak English, why not try this training?

毎日３０秒このトレーニングを続けますと、少しずつですが英語が話せるようになってくると思います。

英語をあまり話す機会がない方には特に、おすすめです！

簡単にできるビジネスの場での英語での自己紹介

Today, let’s learn easy but useful phrases that we can use when we introduce ourselves in business.
Introducing oneself is very basic but very important to get business started.
However, I sometimes hear from some English learners that introducing oneselves is somehow difficult.
So, today let’s practice easy phrases to introduce!
You can start with…
・Your name
・Company name
・About the company
・Position
・Greeting
For example...
(Your name)
・I’m …(name)
OR
・My name is…
(Company name)
・I work for ABC company.
OR
・I’m an office worker at ABC company
(About the company)
・ABC company is a computer manufacturer in Tokyo.
(Position)
・I’m a sales manager. / a receptionist.
(Greeting)
・Nice to meet you.
OR
・I’m very happy / excited / honored to be here.
Also, you can add hobby or something related to you.
・I like traveling. / playing golf
・It takes 2 hours to commute to my working place.
Those who have a chance to introduce oneselves but don't have so much confidence, why not practice again and again?

英語圏でも自己紹介はビジネスを始める時において、とても大切な要素です。

しかし、たびたび生徒の方々から聞くのが“ビジネスの場における自己紹介は意外と難しい”という意見です。

最初は難しいかもしれませんが、パターンを頭に入れてしまうと意外と楽ですので、今日は簡単にできる自己紹介をマスターしていきましょう。

自己紹介の流れとしては以下のような流れです。

・自分の名前
・勤め先
・勤め先について
・地位や役職
・挨拶のひとこと

具体的に見ていきますと・・・

（勤め先）
・I work for ABC company.

（地位や役職）

この他に自己紹介の流れを見て、自分に関する趣味や通勤などのことを入れてもいいと思います。

すぐに使えるジムに関する英語

I really appreciate your visit to this blog!
Today, let’s learn some English related to gym.
Since I started working out at the gym for my health in Toronto, Canada in 2008, I’ve continued going to the gym.
These days, I don’t have as much time as I used to have in Toronto, Canada, so I can't go to the gym as often as I did in Toronto.
However, I try to go there twice a week.
As the book “The 7 habits of highly effective people”, which I recommended on this blog suggests going to the gym, I personally recommend working out regularly because it’s good for your not only physical but also mental health!

NHK９時のニュースを利用して英語で時事問題に慣れ親しもう

Today, I’d like to introduce a training to improve your English skills.
With this training method, you can get more familiar with current social issues.
How to begin the training is very easy - just turn on the TV at 9 P.M. and set the channel to NHK.
Don’t forget to change the sound to "English" because this is the key!!
The speed of English used in the new program is natural, which means quite fast, however, there is almost always Japanese caption with what you hear in English.
So, just relax and try to listen to English!
You might be able to catch more and more English as continuing every day!!

英語講師の第164回TOEIC公式テストの感想と新たな決意

Good morning, and I appreciate your visit!
Today, I'd like to write about the TOEIC test I took yesterday.
It was the 164th TOEIC testing day yesterday.
Recently, I take the TOEIC test annually, and it was yesterday this year.
To be honest, yesterday's TOEIC test was the most difficult I've ever tried.
Especially, in the Part 7 (Reading Part), I skimmed and scanned the passages, but couldn't find the answers easily.
Therefore, I had to read them carefully to find the answers, so it took a lot of time and I could just finish the test on time...even though I can usually finish the test 10 to 15 minutes before the test finishes.
Anyway, what I felt after the test was "I can't get satisfied with my current English ability and I have to learn more to get the perfect score!!"
I decided that I'll read and listen to English more, and also I'll check some basic grammar once again!!
I'll input a lot for the next TOEIC test!!

本日は“英語講師の第164回TOEIC公式テストの感想と新たな決意”です。

昨日は第164回TOEIC公式テストの日でした。

最近は１年に１度TOEICテストを受験していますので、昨日がその１年に１度の日でした。

正直、昨日のテストの感想をここに書きますと、今までのTOEIC受験の中でも一番難しかったと思います。

特にPart7（リーディング）では、いつものようにざっと英文に目を通して（Skimming）から答えを探した（Scanning）のですが、１回読んだだけでは答えが見つからない問題も数多くあり、思ったよりも時間がかかってしまい、テスト終了時刻２分前にちょうど終わったような感じでした。（普段通りであれば、１０～１５分前には終わるのですが）

テスト終了後は、久々に良い意味での“実力不足”を痛感しました。

なので、次回のTOEICテストのために、しっかりとインプット（リスニングとリーディング）ならびに基本文法を確認し、英語の基礎力を上げていきたいと思います！

次回のTOEICテストでは、きっちりとリベンジです!!

TOEICテスト当日のおすすめ準備法

As some of you may know that today is the TOEIC testing day, and today I'd like to write about what we can do for the TOEIC until the testing time.
Needless to say, from now until the test, there is not much time left.
So, I recommend trying some TOEIC practice websites, such as "Yahoo TOEIC" or "Eigo town."

英語学校設立に向けての人生初の商標登録書類提出

This is the TOEIC weekend in July.
Are those who are planning to take the test preparing for it?
As for me, I’m not preparing for the TOEIC as much as I usually do, so I wonder if I can get better score than the previous year, however, I’ll just use my time wisely and prepare as much as I can today.
Anyway, yesterday, after I had a couple of lessons in Tokyo, I visited the patent office in Tokyo again.
It was 2 days in a row going to the office and finally, I submitted a form of a registered trademark for my English school.
I really don’t know if they accept the idea of my logo as a registered trademark or not, but I can know the result in 6 months, and I hope I can make it!!

さて、昨日は東京のカフェでレッスンをした後、再び特許庁へ行ってきました。

これで特許庁へ行くのは一昨日に続き２日間連続になりましたが、昨日、英語学校に関する商標登録の書類を提出することができました。

自分が提出したロゴのアイディアが商標登録されるかまだわかりませんが、６カ月後には確実にわかるようですので、その時には良いご報告ができるよう願うばかりです。

英語学校設立への次の一歩 - 特許庁での相談

Good morning and I appreciate your visit!
Yesterday, I visited the patent office in Tokyo for the first time in my life time.

The reason I visited there yesterday was I wanted to clarify some questions about a registered trademark.
There were several steps I had to take in order to ask questions, such as showing my ID to enter the building, visiting the main office, filling in a form, calling an extension number, and so on…
It took a longer than I initially anticipated to ask questions, but I’m glad and relieved to hear the answers to my questions
From now on, I’m going to prepare some necessary documents for applying for a registered trademark!

昨日、自分の人生で初めて特許庁を訪れました。

特許庁を訪れた主な理由は、商標登録に関していくつか質問があったためです。

特許庁では質問をするまでにいくつかステップ（例えば・・・建物に入る前の荷物検査・ＩＤチェック、相談する場所へ行く前に内線に電話を入れるなど）を踏まなければいけないことを知らずにいったため、時間がかかってしまいました。

が、良い経験となったと同時に、職員の方々は親切で自分の質問にしっかりと答えてくれたので、商標登録出願に関しての不安は解消することができました。

今からしっかりと商標登録出願準備をしたいと思います！
