Good morning, and thank you for your visit to this blog!
Today, let’s learn some greeting expressions.
When I was a junior high school student taking English lessons at school, the first expression I learned there was “How are you?”&“I’m fine.”
At that time I thought that that was the only greeting, however, after I studied English in Canada, I started to realize that there are a lot of greetings in addition to “How are you?”
For example…
・How are you doing?
・How’s it going?
・How are things?
・What’s new?
・What’s new with you?
・What’s up?
We can use these following expressions below when you haven’t met someone for a long time…
・How have you been?
・What have you been up to?
Use a variety of greetings and enjoy communication!

本日は“すぐに使える挨拶に関する英語”です。

自分が中学校に入って英語を学び始めた時、最初に学んだ表現が今でも忘れられない“How are you?”“I’m fine.”です。

当時はこの表現が唯一の“お元気ですか？”の表現だと思っていましたが、カナダで英語留学をして実際に英語を使うようになって気付いたのは、“How are you?”以外にたくさんの表現があるという事実でした。

例えば“お元気ですか？”という表現なら・・・

・How are you doing?

・How's it going?

・How are things?

また、“何か変わったことはある？”という挨拶なら・・・

・What's new?

・What's new with you?

・What's up?

また、少し長い間会っていなかった人との挨拶は・・・

・How have you been?（元気にしてた？）

・What have you been up to?（何か変わったことは？）

以上のようにいろいろな挨拶の表現がありますので、表現を使い分けて使ってみましょう！

This past weekend, I met some of my friends whom I met in Canada, and in the conversation, there was a topic of movies.
That conversation reminds me of a film "Envy" that I'd like to introduce today.
"Envy" is an American comedy film in 2004.
It stars Ben Stiller and Jack Black, who are two of my favorite actors since they are very funny.
The good points of this movie are...
・The story is easy to understand and English is easy to hear since English spoken in this movie is quite clear.
・You can watch this movie as a comedy and can enjoy.

先週末、カナダにいる時に会った友達と会う機会があり、その中の会話で映画の話題が出ました。

その時に思い出したのが、この場で紹介致します“Envy”という映画です。

“Envy”（邦題：隣りのリッチマン）はアメリカのコメディー映画で２００４年に公開されました。

この映画にはアメリカのコメディ映画を代表する、とても面白い２人の俳優Jack BlackとBen Stillerが共演しています。

英語学校創業に向けての英会話体験レッスン(5/28)の感想

Good morning, and thank you for your time to read this blog!
Today, I’d like to write about the trial lesson that I mentioned in this blog on May 17th.
As I wrote down a trial lesson on May 17th in this blog (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/d/20110518), I had an opportunity to have an English conversation lesson yesterday.
Although there were some minor changes (place & time), I was able to have the lesson thanks to those who came to take the lesson in bad weather yesterday.
The topic in the conversation lesson was about “let’s use some magic phrases to enjoy English communication!”
The lesson was quite successful since I saw the students use the teaching points a lot, enjoy English communication, and also they I was able to get some positive comments after the lesson.
One comment from a student is here...
“The lesson was fun, and I was able to learn some points to enjoy English communication!”
I was glad to hear those comments because the purpose this time was “I wanted students to enjoy English communication.”
Once again, thanks a lot for coming.

本日は“英語学校創業に向けての英会話体験レッスン(5/28)の感想”です。

５月１７日のブログ (http://blog.goo.ne.jp/artismart/d/20110518)でお知らせしておりました、英会話体験レッスンを昨日実施しました。

今回は場所・時間などの急な変更があったにも関わらず、悪天候の中、数名の方にレッスンにお越しいただくことができました。（参加していただいた方々、この場をお借りしてお礼申し上げます）

昨日の英会話のレッスンでは“英語コミュニケーションを楽しむためのマジックワード”と題し、英会話をより一層楽しむためのレッスンをしました。

レッスンの中では、生徒の方はしっかりとポイントを学び、しっかりとポイントを使ってコミュニケーションを楽しんでいた点と、レッスン後にポジティブな感想をいただくこともできましたので、成功だったと言えると思います。

１つポジティブな感想を紹介しますと・・・

“レッスンは楽しかったです！英語コミュニケーションを楽しむためのとても役に立つ英語を学び、しっかりと練習することができただけでなく、英語をたくさん話す時間がありとても楽しかったです！”

ブログにコメントを掲載することに快く承諾してくださった皆様、ありがとうございました。

今回の体験レッスンでは“生徒の方に英語コミュニケーションを楽しんでもらう”という自分の中で明確な目的があったので、このようなコメントをいただけとても嬉しく思います。

英語コミュニケーション上達のコツ - ４つのスキルの上手な使い方

Today, I’d like to write about some tips to improve English communication skills.
As you probably know that there are 4 skills in English language - Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
If we categorize these skills, we can say Listening & Reading are "Input" and Speaking & Writing are “Output.”
As I categorize above, “Just listening some English is not good enough to speak English to communicate”, or “just speaking and not listening to others means not good to improve communication skill either.”
Technically, Input and Output are different skills, so if you want to improve your English communication skills, you definitely need to train both “Input” & “Output.”
So, one of the best ways to improve your communicaiton skill is Ondoku training - reading out loud training!

本日は“英語コミュニケーション上達のコツ - ４つのスキルの上手な使い方”です。

ご存知かもしれませんが、英語には“リスニング・スピーキング・リーディング・ライティング”という４つのスキルがあります。

これら４つのスキルは“リスニング・リーディング”は“インプット”の技能、“スピーキング・ライティング”は“アウトプット”の技能に分けることができます。

このようにインプット・アウトプットの技能にわけて英語でのコミュニケーションのことを考えた時、単純に英語を聴くだけでは、英語を話す能力には結びつかないことや、“自分だけ話したいことを話すだけで、相手のことを聴かない”と英語でコミュニケーションができる力は伸びないという結果になります。

なので、英語でのコミュニケーションを上達させるには、インプットとアウトプット能力を同時に鍛える必要があります。

両方を同時に鍛えるベストなトレーニング方法としましては、インプット・アウトプットを組み合わせた“音読トレーニング”などをおすすめします！

インプット能力＆アウトプット能力を鍛えて、英語コミュニケーション上達を目指しましょう！！

Today, let’s learn some phrases that can be used when you introduce yourself in business.
Needless to say, introducing oneself is the most primary and it’s especially important in business situation because good first impression lasts long.
To introduce oneself, there are a lot of ways to say.
Let’s see some phrases to introduce oneself…
・It’s pleasure to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)
・It’s nice to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)

英語学校設立に向けての税務署での帳簿記入の勉強会

Good morning, and thank you for your time to read this blog!
Yesterday, I visited a local tax office and studied how to do the bookkeeping.
Until yesterday, I knew very little about bookkeeping...I mean I thought that it is just the recording of financial transactions; however, it turned out that its process is more complicated than I expected.
Actually, the more I learned about bookkeeping, the more I found out it is very complicated, but I’m glad I went to the tax office and learned about bookkeeping yesterday.
It was really good timing before getting my English school started to learn about bookkeeping!
In addition to the preparation for my English to get started, what I need to do is learn about bookkeeping little by little from now on!

実際、勉強会で少しずつ帳簿記入を知るにつれ、複雑な帳簿記入に慣れるまで時間がかかることがわかっただけでも、昨日勉強会に参加して良かったと思います。

また、英語学校設立前のこのタイミングで帳簿記入を学べてとても幸運でした！

英語学校設立準備に加え、少しずつ簿記の学習もしていきたいと思います。

TOEICテスト初受験の方・久々の受験の方へ英語講師おすすめのTOEIC準備法

Today, I’d like to write about how to prepare for the TOEIC test for those who are going to take the TOEIC test for the first time & for those who haven't taken the TOEIC test since the last one they took.
Currently, I work as an English instructor and I take several English qualification tests.
However, to tell you the truth, I take the TOEIC test once a year in order to see if my English skills have improved and the questions are almost the same as before or not.
I don’t do anything particular for the TOEIC test, but I make some time before the TOEIC test to solve some questions with the latest TOEIC official practice test published by IIBC (Institute for International Business Communication).
If someone who is going to take the TOEIC for the first time, and who hasn't taken it for a long time like me, one ought to try the latest TOEIC official practice test!
By trying it, you can know the latest tendency of the TOEIC test and also you can know your strength, weakness, and approximate score.
If you still have some time before the test, I recommend trying it over and over again.
Practice makes perfect!

・Please slow down.
・Hold on. Could you speak more slowly?
・I’m sorry. I couldn’t catch what you just said.
If you are not sure what a speaker says, don’t hesitate to make clear with these expressions!!

そんな時に使える“相手の話をしっかりと理解するための英語表現”がこちら・・・

・Sorry?（ごめんなさい。（もう一度言っていただけますか？））

・Excuse me. Could you say that again?（申し訳ありませんが、もう一度言っていただけますか？）

・Excuse me, but you’re speaking too fast.（申し訳ありませんが、話が速すぎて聞きとれません）

・Just a minute. You're speaking too fast. （すみません。速すぎて聞き取れません）

・Please slow down.（ゆっくり話してください）

子供や友達、どこでも誰とでも楽しめる簡単な英語ゲーム

Today, I’d like to introduce an “easy-to-play” English game!

You can play this game with anyone who has English knowledge, so you can play with kids if they have enough English knowledge.
In order to play this game, you don’t need to prepare anything, but a dictionary may be sometimes helpful.
As far as I know, this game has no name, but the similar game is called “Shiritori” in Japanese.
Here’s how to play with 3 people:
1. Player 1 says “English”
2. Player 2 says “Hot”
3. Player 3 says “Time”
4. Player 1 says “E-mail”
5. Player 2 says “Lion”
…to be continued until someone says the same word or says the word whose first letter incorrectly.
The game is continued until one remains.
If you have spare time nothing to do with your friends, why don’t you try?
You can play this game anywhere, anytime!!

今日ご紹介するゲームは、英語の知識がある方であれば子供でも楽しめるゲームです。

ゲームに必要なものは特にありませんが、辞書があると役に立つと思います。

（自分の知る限り）このゲームに名前はありませんが、“日本のしりとり”に似ています。

それではゲームの進め方（３人の場合）：

１．最初のPlayer 1が１つ単語を言います。例えば “English”

２．次のPlayer 2 はPlayer 1が言った単語の終わりの文字から始まる言葉を考えて言います。例えば “Hot”

３．次のPlayer 3も同様、前のPlayer 2の単語の終わりの文字から始まる言葉を言います。例えば “Time”

４．Player 1に戻り、同様に続けます

もし同じ単語や、違う文字で始まる単語を言ってしまったらその人はゲーム終了で、最後まで残った人が勝ちです。

もし、家族や友達と日本語のしりとりをする機会がある場合、代わりに英語でしりとりをしてはいかがでしょうか？
