集中講義で、盛岡の近郊・滝沢村の岩手県立大学にいます。一年ぶりに岩手の真っ白な雪を見ています。雪はなんだか興奮しますね。学生もなかなか熱心で、楽しく授業しています
下記にあるアメリカの若手研究者と、山崎先生、梶先生とともにお話ししました。彼はソウルで研究をしていて、先日の東アジアＳＴＳ会議にも参加していた人だったのでびっくり。会場の唯一の西欧人だったので目立っていたので。
彼は、ベトナム戦争派兵の見返りとしてアメリカが韓国に設置支援したKAIST（先端科学技術の研究所）などを研究し、日本依存の研究システムからアメリカ型の研究システムに韓国がいかに移行したかを分析しているそうです。総督府文書なども調べたいとのこと。韓国語を勉強中で、日本語にも関心があるそうです。今後注目の人物かも・・・。

student at Princeton in History of Scienceとありましたから，こちら
で言う博士２年生ぐらいでしょうか）が，９日の午前中に私の研究室に
やってきます．
昼に百年記念館あたりで一緒に昼食をと思っています．関心がある方は，
ご一緒にどうぞ．
彼は，米国の韓国に対する科学援助に興味を持っているようで，そのた
め，韓国留学生の李京和さんが，以前ここの修士論文で取り上げたこと
がある原子力研究所などについて調べているようです．韓国での調査の
帰路(?)，日本に立ち寄るようです．

I'm working on a dissertation on South Korean state science
institutions after 1945, and as part of that history, I'm
particularly interested in the ROK nuclear program, beginning
in the mid-1950's (c. 1955-1959, with the first reactor, a TRIGA
Mark II). In the US and ROK documents from this period, there
is also a great deal of discussion about the Japanese program
(Morris Low has written about this, but there's not much else
in the US) and its implications for Korea. Therefore, if you
have time next week (the week of Monday Feb. 7th), I'd like to
hear your views on what was going on with the Japanese nuclear
program in its early period through the early 1960's.
