日本の時間、世界の時間。
The time of Japan, the time of the world

It may have been possible during the GHQ occupation, but it "inherited" the now outdated

The following is from yesterday's Sankei Sho.
The Asahi Shimbun's front-page column Tenseijingo introduced yesterday the "Ikenkai" held by Kuroda Nagamasa, the first lord of the Fukuoka clan.
Nagamasa had vowed not to be offended by any nasty things his vassals said to him.
On the contrary, Tenseijingo was criticizing Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
Of course, this is the same with the Science Council of Japan's decision not to appoint some of the new member candidates recommended by the council.
*The Asahi Shimbun is a newspaper that denies Japan's past and strives to undermine Japan. When attacking the Liberal Democratic Party's (LDP) administration, it invokes the great men of Japan's history. In the first place, it is also incorrigible that the war-denying Asahi newspaper uses warlords as an example*.
So is the National Science Council, the body that is supposed to represent our country's scientists, an organization that hears many painful things?
Tadashi Narabayashi, professor emeritus of Hokkaido University, reveals its intransigence in a post on the National Institute for Basic Studies website.
In fiscal 2016, Hokkaido University applied for the Ministry of Defense's Security Technology Research Promotion Program.
The selected research was on reducing the resistance of ships' navigation with fine bubbles.
It was a groundbreaking work that reduced the fuel efficiency of ships by 10 percent.
However, the Science Council ruled that it was military research.
Senior officials barged into the office of the president of Hokkaido University and forced him to withdraw from the research.
There are many similar examples.
It was indeed a crushing blow to academic freedom.
The Science Council declared in 1950 that it would not conduct military research.
It may have been possible during the GHQ occupation, but it "inherited" the now outdated statement only three years ago.
It was at a time when North Korea was launching a series of ballistic missiles.
What is most incomprehensible is that Japan considers security research a taboo subject while at the same time condoning joint research with China, which is rapidly increasing its military power.
According to Dr. Narabayashi, many researchers are critical of the council.
The uproar will be an opportunity for them to raise their objections.
It includes the privatization or dismantling of the organization, which the government funds at 1.05 billion yen a year.
