実は今仕事から帰ってきたところです。
I have just come back from work.
ともかく、今日は忙しかったです。
Today was such a hectic day.
何でそんなに忙しかったか、ですか？
Why was I so busy?
実は、ある外国の方がつい先日亡くなり、その方の棺を祖国へ搬送するための手配をずっとしていたんです。
Well, a person from abroad has recently passed away and I was fully involved in making arrangements for the coffin to be shipped to his country.
もちろん、そのために何をすればいいのかなんて、知るはずもないですよね。
Of course, I had no idea as to what needs to be done for that to happen.
そこで、まずは日本の葬儀屋さんからだいたいの話を聞きました。
So, first, I asked a Japanese funeral home for information about shipping a coffin abroad,
そこの葬儀屋さんは、前に海外に棺を送ったことがあるというのでね。
The funeral home told me that they have done it before.
しかし、話を聞けば聞くほど、その葬儀屋さんが頼りにならないことがわかりましてね。
But, the more I asked them about it, the more I realized that they are not a reliable source of information.
そこで、大使館からもらった指示に従い、必要書類を整え始め、
Therefore, starting to gather necessary documents according to the instructions given by the Embassy.
自分で棺を海外に搬送する方法を模索し始めました。
I began to find the way of shipping a coffin abroad.
実は、最初はすべてを引き受けてくれる業者がいないかネットで探しました。
To tell you the truth, I first looked for a vendor to do all the work using the Internet.
そして、見つかったことは見つかったんですが、その業者の費用が高いこと、高い事。
Even though I found a vendor, it demands an incredibly big fee for the job.
そこで、それを支払う人のことを考え、自分で手配をすることにしました。
So, I decided to take care of all arrangements by myself thinking of the person who has to pay all the fees.
必要書類を揃えるのは結構手間がかかりましたね。
Getting all the documents required took a lot of time and trouble.
でもまあ、慎重にすれば、なんとかなるものですね。
However, as long as you are careful enough to do things, you can make it.
一番手間がかかったのが、国外空輸をしてくれる会社とのやりとりですかね。
The most troublesome is the communication with the international shipping company.
知らなかったのですが、日本通運がしてくれるんですよ。
I had no knowledge about it, but Japan Express is the company that takes care of the job.
質問とか指示は結構ありましたが、比較的スムースに交渉は進みました。
There have been many questions and instructions, but our things went pretty smoothly.
あ、いけね。もう寝なきゃ。明日は朝５時半起きなんですよ。
Woops. I have to go to bed now. I need to get up at 5:30 tomorrow.
葬儀屋さんから運ばれてくる棺を空港でJALに乗せる手配をしなければいけないんです。
I have to take care of the business of putting the coffin, which is carried to the airport by the local funeral home, onto the JAL flight.
