courtesy bay

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgeraldを読んでいますが、読み初めの予感が的中しました。知らない単語は他の本と同程度の頻度で出てきますが、覚えたい単語、興味を引く表現は今のところ出てきません。しかしながら、意味がよく分からない表現がちらほらあります。単語の意味が分からない、あるいは慣用句に気が付かないと言う問題だけではなさそうです。 次ぎの文は、主人公のNick Carawayが住み始めたロングアイランドの自宅（多分借家）付近についての記述個所です。

辞書を引いても中々すっきりしないのが West EggとEast Eggの間にあると思われる "bay" についている形容詞、 "courtesy" です。　"courtesy bay" とは何でしょうか？
辞書に掲載されている "courtesy" のほとんどの例は、人の態度、行動に対するものか、無料で提供されるサービス/品物で、引用文のような用例はなかなか見つかりませんでしたが、次ぎの辞書に出ていた例がかなり近い用例だと思いました。

West EggとEast Eggの間にある海は "courtesy" で "bay" と呼ばれているが、実際は "cove" に近いか、 "cove" と呼んだ方が適当と言うことだと解釈しましが、どうでしょうか？
