今日は朝食前に家を出て千鳥が淵、靖国神社、皇居東御苑の桜を見に行きました。千鳥が淵は昼も夜も平日でも非常に混んでいるので数年前から早朝の出勤前に出かけて花見をしてから会社に行く事にしています。今日は仕事の後に英語でマーケティングの話をする勉強会に出て、その後に一寸お酒を飲んだので家に帰るのも遅くなりブログの更新が深夜になりました。
さて、調査捕鯨の禁止や黒マグロ（英語では "bluefin tuna"）の国際取引禁止など、海の幸が大好物の日本人にとって悩ましい問題が最近のニュースを賑わしていますが、HUCKLEBERRY FINNに動詞の「 "whale" が出てきました。
Pap he hadn't been seen for more than a year, and that was comfortable for me; I didn't want to see him no more. He used to always whale me when he was sober and could get his hands on me; though I used to take to the woods most of the time when he was around.
まさか "whale" は "吼える"(すみません、駄洒落です）/"叱る" 意味では無く、後に "get his hands on me" とあるので叩くの意味だと思いますが、辞書で見ます。
