の主語はもちろんHawassで述語動詞がtold、a German magazineがO,that he suspects that the sculpture was "smuggled out of Egypt, bypassing the lawがO'になるSVOO'の第四文型です。O'を構成しているthat節が長いとはいえ、文の中心になっている述語動詞はtoldで、
Hawass told a German magazine that he suspects that the sculpture was "smuggled out of Egypt, bypassing the law." という視点が持てれば読みやすいと思います。

②"The commitment Yahoo! makes to every person who signs up for an account is to treat their online activities as confidential, even after their death,"

は、The commitmentとYahoo!の間に目的格の関係代名詞whichもしくはthatが省略されていることさえわかれば文構造は容易につかめるでしょう。これは主語がThe commitmentでisが述語動詞になっているSVC構文（第二文型）です。
　これも、"The commitment Yahoo! makes to every person who signs up for an account is to treat their online activities as confidential, even after their death,"というように述語動詞をしっかり押さえると読みやすいです。
　「五文型とは五種類の動詞の使い方」という文法書の説明は理にかなっています。ただ上述の①、②のように複数の動詞を含んだ英文が少なくありません。
　実際に英文を読むにあたっては、We sang and danced.あるいは、Tom played the piano and I played the violin.といった等位接続詞でつながれた同じ重要度の動詞を持つ英文を除けば、文中で最も重要な述語動詞に注目すると五文型分類による文構造の把握が容易になります。主役がどこで脇役がどこかの見極めがつけば、長い英文も怖くはありません。
