OC-256/OC-283/OC-284 (Rare IOTAs to be Activated).
Team organizers Hans/SM6CVX and Derek/G3KHZ are planning a DXpedition to the islands of Nukumanu (OC-284pr) and Takuu (OC-283pr) this coming September and October. The team will comprise of 4 radio amateurs plus a Swedish friend, a professional photo-grapher, a film producer and a scientist. These islands are the most remote islands from the main island of Papua New Guinea. They plan to be active for 6 days on each of the islands. If time permits, they will also make a stop at Kilinailau Island (OC-256). INTERESTING NOTE: "These islands are low lying and are suffering from the effects of global warming which is causing the sea level to rise. Takuu is especially vulnerable because it is also sinking due to the movement of the tectonic plates in the region. The net result is that the sea level is rising 20cm per year and the island is only 2 metres above the high tide level. 600 people live on this island. Nukumanu is also populated."
QSL route/manager is to be announced later.
