本日のブログは“English Plus（英語学校）のレッスンの４つの特徴 ～ その３．実用的なオリジナルのカリキュラム＆レッスン（日本語編）”です。

English Plusは小さな英語学校ですので、講師・スタッフ・レッスン受講生との距離が近く、受講生一人一人の英語学習の相談や学習方法の提案などをできる環境があります。

また、小さな学校ですので毎回レッスン毎に、各レッスン受講生の英語学習の日頃の取り組み等もチェックしています。

English Plusのレッスン受講生には入学時および必要時にお伝えしていますが、「英語力を伸ばす」上でのEnglish Plusの基本的な考えとしまして、「定期的なレッスン受講」に加えて「毎日の自己学習をすること」が英語力の伸びを考えた上で重要なことだとお伝えしています。

英語力向上のため、English Plusでは様々な取り組みを行っていますが、今日は「English Plusのレッスンの特徴の１つ」である「実用的なオリジナルのカリキュラム＆レッスン」についてご紹介したいと思います。

English Plusのグループレッスンは１冊のテキストに沿う形のレッスンではなく「実用性」を考えながら作成した「English Plusならではのオリジナルカリキュラム」に基づいてレッスンを行っています。

そのため「テキストに書いてあるダイアログ（会話文）を講師の後について読む」、「テキストの例文を暗記する」というレッスンは一切行っておりません。

その代わりに、English Plusのレッスンの中では自ら「会話」を始め、成立させていきます。

レッスンの一例を挙げますと…

生徒A:「自ら質問文を作りだして聞く」

生徒B:「聞こえた質問文に対して答えを返す」

生徒A:「返答された答えに対して感想を言う。加えて関連する質問をもう一つ聞く」

生徒B:「聞かれた質問に答える。相手にも質問してみる」

上記のような「会話を成立させることができる英語力」すなわち「自然なやりとりができる本物の実力（英語力）を身につけること」および「英語コミュニケーションを通して楽しく・しっかりと身に付けていくこと」をEnglish Plusのレッスンの中では大切にしています。

この目的のためにEnglish Plusで行っている全てのレッスンは「実用的なオリジナルのカリキュラム」に基づいて行われています。

オリジナルのカリキュラムは、当校講師のティーチング経験およびTESL資格（英語教授法資格）で学んだ教えるポイントを適切に盛り込みつつ、レベル別に整理してあるため、無理なく無駄なく大切なポイントをコミュニケーションを通して「学べる、練習できる、自分のものにできる」ようになっています。

また、このカリキュラム構成およびレッスン内容は、講師やスタッフ、生徒の方々の英語学習体験・海外での経験なども組み込んだ内容になっています。

さらに、随時カリキュラムの見直しも行っており、その時々の時事問題も取り入れていますので、タイムリーなトピックについて話す時にも役立つ内容になっていると思います。

毎レッスン後にはレッスンの振り返り（例えばレッスン受講生から質問があった点、わかりにくかった点等のフィードバック）をした上で、レッスンをより良いものにするためにアップデートも行っています。

レッスン受講生一人一人の英語力が着実に伸びるように、小さい英語学校だからこそできる工夫をEnglish Plusではこれからも重ねていきます。

Today, I'd like to write about one of the features of English Plus' lesson.
English Plus is a small, friendly, fun, and also has a family atmosphere English school; thus, we can listen to our students' comments directly and support them by providing necessary service in order to help them improve their English skills.
That's the reason why when we know and realize their weakness, we can suggest some effective self-training methods for each of them.
We usually tell our students that "taking lessons regularly" is important, and also "doing self-study constantly" is also necessary to improve English skills.
To maximize the efficiency of lessons, at English Plus, we mainly provide 90-min group lessons, which consist of maximum 4 students in a class.
After the lessons, we give our students some homework and most of them try and submit it the next time they take lessons.
It's because we have decided our school motto "Every day English" and we encourage our students to do some English study in their free time.
In addition to our school system, there are various features of our lessons, and today I'd like to write one of them.
One of our lesson features is "Practical & Original curriculum and lesson."
All of our group lessons are based on our original curriculum, which means our students don't use or follow specific textbooks.
This means our students never do "repeat after me" or "memorize dialogues in a textbook" during our lessons.
Instead, in our conversation lessons, our students try to make dialogues by themselves.
For instance:
Student A: Ask B a question (e.g. What did you do last weekend?)
Student B: Answer A's question (e.g. I went shopping.)
Student A: Listen to B's answer and make a comment & ask another question related to the answer (e.g. I see. Where did you go shopping?)
Student B: Answer A's question and ask A a question (e.g. I went to Odaiba. How about yourself? What did you do last weekend?)
Student A&B's conversation continues.
This is just an example and in our lessons, we encourage our students to speak a lot during lessons.
In order for them to speak a lot and enjoy communication, we try to support our students to acquire basic English skills through the lessons and self-study support.
Basic English skills at English Plus mean they can make sentences freely and accurately.
To master basic English skills and communication skills, our lessons are carried out on our practical original curriculum.
Our original curriculum contains our instructors' teaching experience and some important points that we've learned through TESL curriculum.
The curriculum is separated by each level, from beginner to high intermediate, and our students can effectively learn important tips for acquiring basic English and communication skills.
In addition, this curriculum includes not only our instructors' teaching experience but also our students' and staff members' learning experience, so it is more practical.
After every lesson is done, our teachers check the lesson to see if the lesson was easy for our students to understand or if there is something we should change about it.
For better lessons, we update and improve our lessons every day.
We are going to improve how to teach English from now on too.

English Plusのレッスン受講生には入学時にお伝えしていますが、「英語力を伸ばす」上でのEnglish Plusの基本的な考えとしまして、「定期的なレッスン受講」に加えて「毎日の自己学習をすること」が英語力の伸びを考えた上で重要なことだとお伝えしています。

お伝えするだけでなく実際に英語学習に取り組んでいただくために、レッスン後は、レッスン受講生が無理なく復習等の自己学習を毎日すること、すなわち「英語学習の習慣化」をするため、English Plusでは英語学校のスローガン“Every day English”を決め、各レッスン受講生が「無理なく毎日英語学習に取り組める自己学習」の工夫をしています。

English Plusではこれら「定期的なレッスン受講」と「自己学習サポートの継続」が語学力向上において、大事なことだと思っている上で、レッスンは基本的に１クラス最小１名～最大４名までの少人数制のレッスンを行っています。

今日はその「４名までの少人数制レッスン」というEnglish Plusのレッスンの特徴について書いていきたいと思います。

言語（英語）、すなわち語学（言葉を学ぶということ）は「学んで終わりという学問」ではなく、「学んだ上で、練習を繰り返し、他者とコミュニケーションを上手くとるためのツール」とEnglish Plusでは考えています。

英語はコミュニケーションツールと言う点を考慮すると、レッスンで学んだ要点をどのように自分で使っていくかがポイントになります。

もう少し言い換えますと、実際に英語でやり取りをする中で「学んだり習ったもの、使ったもの」が自分の中に蓄積し、英語力として定着していきます。

これらの点を踏まえますと、英語でのやりとりの時間を多くし、やりとりの量も多いほうが、語学を習得できるチャンスが広がるということが考えられます。

この点で言いますと、クラス内で人数が多い方が会話のトピックや幅は広がり、様々な人の発音や表現、考えを吸収することが出来ます。

しかし、逆に人数が多すぎると質問や発言をしづらかったり、一人ひとりの発言時間が極端に減ってしまったり、講師の目が行き届かないというデメリットも発生します。

これらの点を総合的に考えた上、English Plusのグループレッスンでは最大４名までの少人数制を採用しています。

４名までの少人数制のクラスサイズは、英語でのコミュニケーションがより良く進み、かつ講師の目の行き届く範囲で必要な時にはしっかりとフォローできる、英語学習に効果的なサイズだと思っております。

実際のレッスンでは、クラス内で相手を変えての１対１のコミュニケーションから、４名での話し合い、２名同士でのペアワークなど様々な変化が可能なので、レッスン内では色々な内容を取り入れることが可能です。

１０年以上、英語講師として培ってきた今までのティーチングの経験（大人数の専門学校のクラス、大手英会話教室のマンツーマン等）から、自信を持ってお勧めできる英語レッスンの受講スタイルです。

We, English Plus, believe "taking lessons regularly" and "doing self-study constantly" are really important to improve English skills, and to maximize the lesson efficiency, our class size is max 4 students in a class.
This "small class size" is one of our lesson features.
As you probably know, from the communication point of view for most people, English is not an academic subject but a communication tool.
Considering English as a communication tool, the most important tip is how we use English after learning it.
In other words, practicing English a lot with others helps us improve our English skills.
Of course, one-to-one teaching helps us improve our English skills, but a lot more students in a class can help us improve our English skills more since there are a lot more conversation topics in a class, a wide variety of expressions and vocabulary we can learn, and we can hear other people's opinions too.
However, if there are too many students in a class, it's difficult to speak out or ask questions during a lesson.
Also, there isn't much time to speak English in a class or teachers can't focus on each student's speech when they speak at the same time.
Therefore, at English Plus, our class room size is small - max 4 students in a class.
This small class room size can help our students to communicate more, and our teachers can help our students when necessary.
We feel that this class room size is very effective for our students to improve their English skills.
Since I've personally experienced teaching English at a vocational school, whose class room size was big - 30 students in a class, and at a famous English conversation school, whose class room sizes vary and I taught one-to-one too, 4 students in a class is great!
Actually, there are some other features of our lessons and self-study support, so I'd like to introduce one by one in this blog in the near future.
We haven't been satisfied with our current teaching style yet, and we're looking for better ways to teach English from now on too.

English Plusは１クラス４名までの少人数制を採用していることもあり、小さな英語学校ですので、講師・スタッフ・レッスン受講生との距離が近く、受講生一人一人の英語学習の相談や学習方法の提案などをすることができる環境があります。

English Plusのレッスン受講生にはお伝えしていますが、「英語力を伸ばす」上でのEnglish Plusの基本的な考えとしまして、「定期的なレッスン受講」に加えて「毎日の自己学習をすること」が大切だとお伝えしています。

英語力の向上は、「学習時間に比例する」という語学学習者としての経験および考えに基づいているのですが、「定期的なレッスン受講」および「毎日の自己学習」を習慣化することにより、「英語を学習する時間を確保する＝英語力が伸びる」ができるため、English Plusのレッスンは基本的に「９０分のレッスン」を採用しています。（小学生・中学生のレッスンは６０分レッスンになります。）

そこで今日はこのEnglish Plusのレッスンの特徴の１つである「９０分レッスン」についての考えをもう少し述べたいと思います。

English Plusのレッスンが基本的に９０分なのはいくつか理由があるのですが、主な理由としましては、「レッスンの中のポイントを学習する・理解する」＋「学習したポイントを使えるように練習する」という「学習」+「練習」という２つの要素をしっかりとレッスンに組み込むことができ、実際に使える英語力の習得に最適だと考えるからです。

実際、English Plusのレッスンは、テキストを暗記するようなスタイルではなく、自らの能力（知識 - 語彙、表現、経験等）を駆使して「自分で英文を１から作り出していく、本物の実力（英語力）を養う」スタイルになります。

具体的には、English Plusのレッスン内では基本的に、まず必要なポイント(語彙・文法・表現等)を学びます。

そして、学んだポイントを使って実際に「聞く・話す・読む・書く」といった練習を行い、トピックに沿って自分の意思を自由に表現していきます。

この学習＋練習を繰り返しつつ、復習などの自己学習に取り組むことでご自身の英語力につながっていきます。（レッスンで学ぶだけでなく、レッスンで学んだことを復習し、将来の自分の能力に変えていくためにレッスン後の「自己学習」が重要になります。）

この「実際に使える英語力を養う」ためには、時間が必要になりますが、着実に自分の実力になっていきます。

English Plusの９０分のレッスンを受講された方々からは「９０分があっという間だった」というご感想をよくいただきます。

We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.

Today, I'd like to write about one of the features of English Plus' lesson.
English Plus is a small, friendly, and fun English school, so we have a family atmosphere, and we can listen to our students' comments directly and support them by providing necessary service in order to help them improve their English skills.
When we know and realize their weakness, we can suggest some effective self-training methods for each of them.
We usually tell our students that "taking lessons regularly" is important, and also "doing self-study constantly" is also necessary to improve English skills.
In general, the longer we spend time for studying English, the better English learner we will be.
Therefore, at English Plus, we mainly provide group lessons, which consist of 4 students in a class and lasts 90 minutes for adult students. (60-minute lessons for kids students.)
The main reason why our lesson is basically 90 minutes is that our students have enough time to learn English, and also they can practice how to use English.
In order to acquire practical English skills, we need to "learn" and "practice."
These two elements "learning and practicing" are very important when learning English, and 90-min lessons are good to do both of them.
Since our students seem to enjoy our lessons, almost all of our students say that "90 minutes is short" after the lesson.
At English Plus, in our 90-min lessons, we don't generally use textbooks and our lessons are not for memorizing textbooks, but they use their own language ability, knowledge and experience in order to fully communicate with others.
With this style, we understand that it takes us some time to improve genuine English ability, but we are sure that as long as we don't give up, we can definitely improve our English ability with our learning style.
Since English Plus' slogan is "Every day English", most of our students try to study not only on a lesson day but also in their free time because we have several "Self-study supports."
We feel that studying English has become our students' daily routine, and we are proud of them. (Great job!)
Actually, there are various features of our lessons and self-study support, so I'd like to introduce one by one in this blog in the near future.
We haven't been satisfied with our current teaching style yet, and we're looking for better ways to teach English from now on too.

本日のブログは“English Plusの２０２０年のモットーを決定しました（日本語編）”です。

今年２０２０年も早いこと既に２週間と少しが経過しましたが、皆様は今年の新年の抱負はお決めになりましたでしょうか？

English Plusレッスン受講生の方々に、今年の新年の抱負をお聞きしていますが「英語学習を続ける」というものや「仕事で英語を不自由なく使いたい」という英語関連の物もありました。

そこで、English Plusでは今年も「さらにレッスン受講生の英語力アップのお手伝い」と考え、受講生向けの２０２０年のモットー（標語）を決めました。

２０２０年のEnglish Plusのモットーは…

“困っている外国の方を見かけたら積極的に手を貸そう！”です。

今年２０２０年は東京オリンピックの年ということもあり、東京にはたくさんの外国の方が来ると思いますが、English Plusのレッスン受講生には困っている方を見かけたら、積極的に手を貸してほしいと思っています。

そのためにも、小さい英語学校だからこそできる、English Plusならではのレッスンやサポートを通して、今年もレッスン受講生の方々の英語力アップをもっと真剣に応援していきたいと思っています。

今後も新しいサポートを考え、生徒の方々の英語力アップに貢献していきます。

Today, I'd like to write about English Plus' motto for our students in 2020.
About half a month has already passed since 2020 began. (Time flies!)
At this time of the year, have you decided this year's new year's resolution?
We ask our students about their new year's resolution during the first lessons every year, and they often say "I'll continue studying English!", "I'd like to communicate well in English", "I'd like to use English more fluently in my business" and so on.
There is a wide variety of new year's resolutions, and some of them are related to English.
So this year, we've continued to decide our school motto for our students.
The motto this year is "Let's try to help those who seem to have trouble in Japan!"
Since this year is the Olympics year, so we can expect a lot of foreign travelers to visit Tokyo.
We hope our students can lend them a hand if they need help.
Our English school is small, but we'll care more about our students and support their English improvements!
To do them, we'll continue creating new service from now on too and enjoy English together.

本日は“English Plusの２０１９年のモットーを決定しました（日本語編）”です。

今年２０１９年も早いことに１０日が経過しましたが、皆様は今年の新年の抱負はお決めになりましたでしょうか？

English Plusレッスン受講生の方々に、今年の新年の抱負をお聞きしていますが「英語学習を続ける！」というものや「仕事で英語を不自由なく使いたい！」という英語関連の物もありました。

そこで、English Plusでは今年「さらにレッスン受講生の英語力アップのお手伝い」と考え、２０１９年のモットー（標語）を決めました。

２０１９年のEnglish Plusのモットーは…

“英語学習時間を無理なく増やして英語力アップ！”です。

英語学習者および教える者の立場から「英語力の向上」に関して言えば「英語力を伸ばすには継続的・習慣的に英語に触れる時間および学習時間を取ることが大事」です。

来年２０２０年東京オリンピックを迎える今年も、無理なく楽しみながら英語学習を継続的に習慣化していきましょう。

小さい英語学校だからこそできる、English Plusならではのレッスンやサポートを通して、今後もレッスン受講生の方々の英語力アップをもっと真剣に応援していきたいと思っています。

今後も新しいサポートを考え、生徒の方々の英語力アップに貢献していきます。

Today, I'd like to write about English Plus' motto in 2019.
Nine days have already passed since 2019 began. (Time flies!)
As 9 days have passed, have you decided this year's new year's resolution?
We ask our students about their new year's resolution during the first lessons every year, and they often answer "I'll continue studying English!", "I'd like to communicate well in English", "I'd like to give a presentation in English" and so on.
There is a wide variety of new year's resolutions, and some of them are related to English.
So this year we've decided our school motto.
It's "Let's increase time to study English in our daily life!"
From my personal point of view as an English learner and instructor, I can say that it's important to take time regularly and continuously to study English in order to improve English skills.
Tokyo Olympics 2020 is coming next year, and we should prepare for it from now on.
Our English school is small, but we'll care more about our students and support their English improvements!
To do them, we'll continue creating new service from now on too and enjoy English together.
