Bmw Icom A2 interface

I have recently bought the new BMW Diagnostic Tool Icom A2 interface with Isid 3.1, Ista/d 2.36 and Ista/p 2.49.2 software and i would like to ask if anyone knows if it’s possible to connect wireless to the car’s obd without the LAN cable since it support’s WLAN option or what else needed to make it possible? The Icom A2 interface is a clone.

I don’t think any of the A1 ICOM Clones had WLAN card inside, and I would be surprised if A2 ICOM Clone did. If it does, I am pretty sure you need a special Access Point connected to ISIS Server to use WLAN mode.

Thanks mate for your answer. Actually the ICOM A2 supports Wireless lan. As you can see from the below pic which I have already uploaded (Icom A2 connected in my car’s obd slot) with the system light green (turn on – operational) it has 4 lights. One for communication, one for wireless lan, on for LAN (RJ 45) and one for the operation named system. I was wondering if there is some kind of emulator or something to “trick” the interface so it thinks it is connected on an ISIS server even running from VMware.

Plug the Panasonic power adapter into Benz C5

Insert IODD 2541 into the USB port on C5




Ensure Benz C5 is in a standby mode, then hold the “X” and “√” at the
same time, then it will pop up “Start Update?” (if it pop up “Start
XENTRY Connect?” instead, then, please wait until it disappears, then
repeat the operation until it display “Start Update?”)

When you see “Start Update?”, press “√” and Connect C5 will go into
the update status and IODD 2541 will light up shown as below.

Just quickly press button “5” on IODD 2541.And the cross “X” will turn a circle “O”.



Please look at the Benz C5 screen, it is updating.





The update will take 50-55 minutes to finish, after complete the system will restart.



If the system fails to restart, turn off C5 and then restart it.

When C5 starts, take out the hard disk in the C5 and install it into
the laptop I.E Dell 55220. Before it, Please install the Windows machine
on the U disk



Press F12 when you see the pop-up “F12 Boot Options”


Choose “USB Storage Device” and press “Enter”.



Choose [03] WIN2003 PE Classical



Go to the PE system and open “create a new user” program.






Note : Windows should be located in disk D:

After choose the path, right click on “Create a new admin account” on the left.



Input user name : C5, password: abc12345678 ( you are allowed to input any user name and password as you like).




Click on Ok

Close the application

Turn off the laptop

Take out the disk off the laptop and install it into C5 multiplexer

After update complete every time, paste this Benz C5 key to “StartKeyCerter” to active the diagnostic software.

Having ever used the Nexiq USB Link or Nexiq USB Link 2, I can’t say I really prefer it so much as until fairly recently I didn’t even know there was so many other options as those two are almost the entirety of what I ever see.  Only after recently purchasing a Nexiq USB Link 2 did I begin to realize that so much else (aside from OEM ‘boxes’) was even available.

So far I’m still pleased with the Link 2, but had I done a bit more digging prior to buying it I certainly would have compared it to the DPA5 and might have gone that route just given what I’ve found out about them so far.

About the only complaints I have with the Link 2 so far are the increased price of the adapter cables vs the original (or even other current models) and that connecting via Bluetooth is quite the chore for some reason compared to other (in general) devices.  Given how long the USB cable is though, I’m not terribly concerned with the Bluetooth connectivity.
