そのうえでＪＲ西日本は、確認された異常について、初めて写真を公開して説明し、台車を支える「側バリ」と呼ばれる厚さ８ミリの鋼材に入った亀裂の長さは、側面がおよそ１４センチあり、あと３センチで最上部に達していたことを明らかにしました。
また、側バリの底の面の長さは１６センチで、亀裂はそのすべてに達していたということです。

これについてＪＲ西日本は、「走行中に破断するおそれがあった。破断すれば、脱線など大きな事故に至った可能性があった」という認識を示しました。

また、乗務員が異臭などに気付いてから、３時間にわたって乗客を乗せたまま運行していたことについては、「異常を感じたにもかかわらず、走行を継続させたことを重く受け止めている」と話しました。

そのうえで、今後の安全対策としては、異常があった場合にはちゅうちょ無く列車を止めて車両を調査するなど、社員教育を徹底することや、台車に異常が発生したことをセンサーなどで感知する方法を検討するとしています。

一方で、亀裂などが入った原因についてはわかっておらず、ＪＲ西日本は問題の台車を福岡県の車両所に運び込んで、詳しく調べています。

写真のうち、亀裂を撮影したものは、台車を支える「側バリ」と呼ばれる側面の鋼材と、走行時の衝撃を吸収する「軸バネ」と呼ばれる部品との接合部の近くで、亀裂が確認できます。

ＪＲ西日本によりますと亀裂の長さは縦およそ１４センチあり、側バリの縦方向の長さは１７センチだったため、あと３センチで亀裂が最上部まで達し破断するおそれがあったということです。

また、側バリの底の面の長さは１６センチで、亀裂はそのすべてに達していたということです。

このほかの写真では、モーターの回転を車輪に伝える「継手」と呼ばれる部品に焦げたような跡が見えるほか、継手と別の部品のつなぎ目が斜めにゆがんでいる様子も確認できます。

ＪＲ西日本によりますと、側バリに亀裂が入ったことで台車のバランスが崩れ、ゆがんだ可能性があるということです。

今回のトラブルについて国の運輸安全委員会は、新幹線では初めて深刻な事故につながるおそれがあったとして重大インシデントに認定し、これまでに亀裂ができた車両の調査や運行に関わった乗務員の聞き取りなどを行い、原因の究明を進めています。

運輸安全委員会の中橋和博委員長は１９日の定例の記者会見で、台車の亀裂の長さはおよそ１４センチに達していたことを明らかにしました。
