providential

宮部みゆきの小説 "The Sleeping Dragon" を読んでいます。
After seeing each other for six months, we decided to get married. I proposed, Saeko immediately assented, and our parents were all delighted. There wasn't a problem with any of it. We set the date for a formal engagement ceremony and reserved a hall for the wedding itself. Our official "go-between" was the city desk editor in chief--a man who, coincidentally, came from the same area as Saeko's father. The two had known each other for years, and, coincidentally, I had been tapped for a future position under him.
Saeko had considered the link providential, and I was pleased, too. How were we to know the harm it would lead to?
"providential" は見覚えのある単語ですが、意味を思い出せません。辞書を引きます。
