Reader's Digest 2月号の記事 'Faithful Friends' からの引用です。
And so, on May 16, the first day of Ramadan, Jason, Joleen, Jaelyn, and Sabika woke earlier than usual and ate a full breakfast before the sun rose. At school, Jaelyn and Sabika still walked laps during PE, but they didn't take a sip of water.
トラックを1周する時間を日本語でもラップタイムと言うので、体育の時間に "walked laps" は校庭のトラックを歩いて回っていることを示しているのだと想像します。辞書で "lap" を調べます。
・Oxford English Dictionary: One circuit of a track or racetrack.: heavy rain stopped the race after 18 laps

・Collins Dictionary: In a race, a competitor completes a lap when they have gone round a course once.: On lap two, Baker edged forward.

・Cambridge English Dictionary: a complete trip around a race track that is repeated several times during a competition: After a strong start, she was passed by several runners in/on the final/last lap and finished ninth.
"walk/run laps" を含んだ例文が辞書に見当たらなかったので、ネットで探すと次の例が見つかりました。
I was in the middle of feeding my baby boy, when the phone rang. “I need your help,” the person on the other line said. It was an old friend of mine. “Our school is making it mandatory that the children walk laps during recess time.” She went on to tell me that their recess was only twenty minutes long and that walking a few laps at the start of every session was now encroaching on their already extremely limited amount of free play during school hours. The physical education teacher had implemented the new policy in order to get children more active.
