egghead, sequel

昨日投稿した "egghead" が何故 "an intelectual" のような意味を持つようになったのか気になり調べて見ました。 "Wikipedia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egghead) の説明がもっとも詳しいので最も信憑性があるようですが、ここではもっと簡略に説明したサイトの記述を幾つか紹介します。　
最初はいつもよく引用するOnline Etymology Dictionary, © 2001 Douglas Harperからです。
・1907, "bald person," from egg (n.) + head. Sense of "intellectual" is attested from 1918, among Chicago newspapermen; popularized by U.S. syndicated columnist Stewart Alsop in 1952 in ref. to Adlai Stevenson's presidential campaign.
また、The New York Times, May 18, 1997の "Elite Establishment Egghead Eupatrids" と題した記事に次ぎのような文がありました。
・Egghead was defined in a 1908 letter from the midwestern poet Carl Sandburg as "slang here for editorial writers"; it was popularized in 1952 by the columnist Stewart Alsop, quoting his non-journalist brother John saying "all the eggheads love $(Adlai$) Stevenson. But how many eggheads do you think there are?"
"$(Adlai$)"は何かの記号（引用符？）の文字化けでしょう。　いずれにせよ上記２点は "Wikipedia" の説明とほぼ同じです。
AskVille by Amazonのサイトの語源説明は単に推測しただけのようです。
Definition: An overly intellectual person; someone who thinks too much.
Example:
1) Charles can't order lunch without using an algebraic formula -- what an egghead!
2) Those eggheads in the media are always giving advice, but they don't know anything about real life.
Etymology: Presumably, someone who thinks a lot must have a big brain, and their head must be large enough to hold their brain. A large head might be shaped something like a giant egg.
