January 17, 2006の一口メモの記事 「wait in the wings は「虎視たんたんと待つ」にピッタリの表現。俳優が舞台のそで (wing) で出番を待つことに由来する。イラクでの安定政権誕生を待つ間、同国の石油をねらっている企業は Major oil companies wait in the wings pending the emergence of a stable government in Iraq. のように表現できる。」　の表現は覚えておきたいと思ったので例文をインターネットで探して見ました。

上記例はいずれも新聞記事からですが、wait in the wings はタイトルで使われていますが、本文中では別の表現に代わっているので wait in the wings  の意味を知らなくとも分かるようになっています。
