paper round

2016年03月18日 | 英語の本を読む

Reader's Digest 1月号の記事 Property Mogulからの抜粋です。
"My son Bernie, I want you to take the houses on Main Street. My daughter Sybil, you take the apartments at the east end of town. My son Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the city centre and Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river."
The nurse and witnesses are blown away as they didn't realise the old man had such extensive holdings. As the old man slips away, the nurse says to the grieving wife, "Your husband must have been such a hard working man to have accumulated all this property."
The wife replies, "Property? He had a paper round!"
