peach on

They had no look-out. None of the families would have dared to peach on them and they were sure that the Boston police had long ago lost any interest in the theft of two thousand dollars.

この小説が出版されたのは2011年ですが、話の設定はオリジナルのシャーロックホームズの時代なので英語もその時代の言葉を使っているのですね。

rent the air

Anthony Horowitz のシャーロック・ホームズ小説 "The House of Silk" を読み始めました。シャーロック・ホームズ小説なのに作者がコナン・ドイルでは無いのは何故と思いましたが、これはコナンドイル財団がコナン・ドイルの没後初めて公認したシャーロック・ホームズ小説だそうです。
'Inside the mail car, the security guard had heard the shots and I can only imagine the terror he must have felt as he unlocked the door if they had demanded it? We will never know. A moment later, a huge explosion rent the air and the entire wall of the carriage was blown apart.
"rent the air" の動詞、現在形は "rent" あるいは "rend" だと思うが、いずれにせよ、ここでの意味に合う動詞を知りません。辞書を見ます。

put on the dog

長くなるので上の台詞が出るまでのいきさつは引用できませんが、Mitchが来ることを期待していたBlanchですが、Mitchは来なかった状況での台詞なので、"stood up" は待ちぼうけの意味だと分かります。一応辞書で "stand up" の説明を見ます。

I want to be near you, got to be with somebody, I can't be alone! Because--as you must have noticed--I'm--not very well...[Her voice drops and her look is frightened.]
戯曲なので当然会話の部分が文章の大半を占めていて、難しい単語は余りでてきませんが、連語とか句動詞とか頻繁で使われていて、普段英語で話すことがほとんどないので、私にはやはり難しい表現です。
上の個所の "put up at" は文脈からすると泊まることだと推測できますが、耳で聞いても直ぐには分かりません。辞書で意味を確認します。

・Oxford English Dictionary: Stay temporarily in accommodation other than one's own home.: We put up at a hotel in the city centre.

・Collins Dictionary: If a person or hotel puts you up or if you put up somewhere, you stay there for one or more nights.: I wanted to know if she could put me up for a few days.; Hundreds of junior civil servants have to be put up in hotel rooms and temporary hostels.

戯曲は誰が話しているのかはっきりしているので読み易いですね。
BLANCHE[dubiously]:
Wonderfull, honey. I don't like a bed that gives much. But there's no door between the two rooms, and Stanley--will be decent?
