HFØPOL/LH

2008-09-18 06:18:18 | Weblog
We’re happy to bring you the latest news from the Antarctic Peninsula. We just received a confirmation that Marek SP3GVX currently is working as HFØPOL/LH - he really does operate from the lighthouse situated next to the Polish scientific base of Henryk Arctowski. This stands for probably a very first amateur radio activity of that kind from Antarctica. QSL route via SP3WVL (both bureau or direct).

The lighthouse reference is POL-001.

More news regarding this operation to come vy soon. Stay tuned.

From Martti Laine OH2BH:

FOUR BRAVE MEN CHALLENGE THE ROCKY GULF OF FINLAND

MARKET REEF, OJ0B QRV FROM SEPTEMBER 18 - 29, 2008

Yes, you got it right, for eleven days temperatures in this Far North region will have dropped to some 6C. Spending almost a fortnight in a damp and cold lighthouse takes some determination. No shower and no reasonable sanitary facilities available.

OH2PM, Pertti; OH2BO, Ilmo; OH3JR, Henry and OH0RJ, Lars will attempt a landing this early Friday morning. They will run two Yaesu FT-1000MPs and Alpha 91B amplifiers. They have built a special array for 160M, hoping for some early propagation into the United States. Also, they will run a SteppIR beam, a Butternut HF-2V and an assortment of wires.

During this coming weekend, Pertti, OH2PM will be running the Scandinavian Activity Contest (CW single-op all-band), and the following weekend the same on SSB. It will be the 50th Anniversary Scandinavian Activity Contest, with a special offering of diplomas by the Swedish organizers. A special SAC 50th Anniversary Home Page is launched here.

During the two contest periods, the other station will be exclusively on 160M as well as on the WARC bands.

If you observe some interesting openings outside of the contest and wish to inform the operators on Market Reef, just drop an email to oh2bh at sral.fi
