ミニマルペアを活用すると、自分に聞こえない音がはっきりわかる。それを克服するには、先ほどの実験のように正解をすぐに確認しながら何度も聞いて耳を鍛え、脳の配線を変えるのがいちばんだ。
この研究成果は外国語学習に活用できる。「rock」と「lock」は典型的な「ミニマルペア」だ。ミニマルペアとは、音素が1つだけ異なる2つの単語を意味する。
