Today, let's learn some useful expressions that can be used in online business meetings, such as Zoom.
I guess some of you have some opportunities to participate in meetings at work.
Since COVID-19 is around us, I imagine you have a lot more chance to join online meetings.
So, today, let's learn some English expressions when you have trouble hearing others during online meetings.
For example...

【Simple Expressions】
・I'm afraid that I can’t hear you.（すみませんが、聞こえません）
・There is something wrong with the connection, and I can't hear you well.（接続の調子が悪いようで、お声が聞き取りづらいのですが）

【Polite Expressions】
・Could you please speak closer to the microphone?（マイクに近づいて話してもらえますか？）
・I'm sorry to interrupt, but I couldn’t hear what you said. Could you please repeat that again？（中断してすみませんが、よく聞こえませんでした。もう一度お願いできませんか？）

I imagine a lot of you have a chance to send e-mails in your daily business.
What vocabulary and expressions you use in your e-mail depends on your job, and industry; however, at the end of each business e-mail, you need to finish your e-mail with a closing.
If you send a business e-mail to your clients, whom you've known or met before, you can use a polite yet friendly closing.
So, today, let's learn some polite yet friendly closing phrases, for instance...

・Kind regards,
・Warm regards,

・Excuse me, but can I interrupt you for a moment?（申し訳ないのですが、話の途中で割り込んでもいいですか？）
・Sorry to interrupt, but may I add something to that? （割り込んで申し訳ないのですが、それについて付け加えていいでしょうか？）

Good morning and thank you very much for visiting English Plus blog!
Today, I'd like to write about a piece of advice for English learners who are taking lessons.
Since I began to teach English, a decade has passed.
Through my career as an English instructor, I've had some opportunities to teach students from all over the world, such as Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and so on.
From my teaching experience, I've learned and discovered a lot of things from my students.
One of the things I've learned through teaching English is that the speed of improvements on English skills depends on a student.
This is true that some students can improve their English skills slowly but steadily; others can improve quickly.
In my opinion, those who can improve their English skills quickly have 5 common characteristics, and today I'd like to write about the second one.
The second one is someone who can ask questions.
During lessons, students sometimes encounter some unknown vocabulary or grammar.
In case of this situation, one characteristic of students who can improve English skills quickly is to ask questions.
If they don't know the word or grammar point, they usually ask questions.
By asking questions, they can not only know and understand the answer but also communicate with their teacher or their classmates.
Another good point of asking questions is that the question might be a very good question that everyone wants to ask.
From my point of view as an English instructor, someone who can ask questions can improve their English skills quickly.
Let's ask questions politely and improve English skills a lot!

In our daily business situations, there is a situation like this - we want to ask a question to someone while the person is busy.
In this situation, the following phrases might be useful.
The phrases are about "how to interrupt someone politely when he/she is busy."
For example...
・Excuse me, may I have a word with you?
・Excuse me, may I speak to you for a second?
・I'm sorry to interrupt, but may I speak you briefly?
・Sorry to bother you, but can I have a minute to talk with you?
You might need to use the phrases above in the future, so let's learn from now!

本日は“ビジネスの場における - ちょっとよろしいでしょうか？の英語表現”です。

日常のビジネスの状況において、話したい相手が忙しそう…けれども今、相談したいことや話したいことがある、という状況があると思います。

今日はこのような状況において使える“ちょっとよろしいでしょうか？”の英語表現を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば…

・Excuse me, may I have a word with you?

・Excuse me, may I speak to you for a second?

・I'm sorry to interrupt, but may I speak you briefly?

・Sorry to bother you, but can I have a minute to talk with you?

上記の表現は“すみませんが、ちょっとよろしいでしょうか？”というような意味になります。

必要に応じて使えるように１つでも、今から学んで口にだして練習しておきましょう！

In this case, today's phrases might be useful!
The phrases are "how to interrupt the conversation politely."

・Sorry to interrupt, but...
・Excuse me for interrupting, but...
You can use the phrases above when you want to interrupt a conversation.

Today, let’s learn some useful phrases that can be used when you go abroad.
I recently heard the following story from one of our students.
When she and her friend went abroad and stayed at a local hotel, she realized that there weren't enough amenities in the room, such as towels.
So, she called the reception, but she didn't know how to say or complain on the phone.
After she came back to Japan, she asked me how to complain politely.
So, today, let’s learn how to complain about service at a hotel.
For example...
・I think there’s something wrong with the bathroom.
・I’m sorry, but the room is a bit dirty.
・Excuse me, but the shower doesn't work.
If you happen to have this kind of room, try to complain politely!
In our Travel English conversation course, there is a lesson about "how to complain".

本日は“海外旅行時などサービスに対して苦情を言う時のひとこと英語”です。

最近、English Plusの生徒の一人の方から聞いた話ですが、その生徒の方とお友達の方は、海外旅行に行き、あるホテルにチェックインしたそうです。

チェックインまでは良かったものの、部屋に入って気付いたのはホテルに通常ある備品（タオルなど）がなかった、ということでした。

仕方がないので、受付に電話をしたものの、問題は電話で苦情を言おうにも英語が出てこなかった…ということでした。

そんな話をお聞きしましたので、今日は海外旅行時（ホテルなどで）のサービスに対して苦情を言う時の英語表現を紹介したいと思います。

例えば…

・I think there’s something wrong with the bathroom. （お風呂場の様子が少しおかしいのですが）

・I’m sorry, but the room is a bit dirty. （部屋が少し汚れているのですが）

・Excuse me, but the shower doesn't work. （すみませんが、シャワーが使えないのですが）

海外旅行時にホテルで不備があった場合、上記の表現が使えると思います。

Today, let's learn some polite English that can be used in business.
In most business situations, I think we should use polite English.
So, today let's learn and practice some polite ways to say in each situation below.
For example...
・When you want someone to pass you a pen, you can say "Pass me the pen."
However, in a polite way, you can say... "Could you please pass me the pen?"
・When you are busy and someone ask you something, you can say "Wait a minute."
However, in a polite way, you can say... "Could you give me a minute?"
・When someone asks you something, you can say "NO."
However, in a polite way, you can say... "I'm afraid I can't."
・When you are on the plane and a flight attendant asks you your preference of a meal, you can say "I want fish."
However, in a polite way, you can say... "I would like fish, please. "
・When you are on the phone, you can say... "Wait a minute."
However in a polite way, you can say... "Can you hold please?"
Let's try to use polite English!

英語では敬語がないと思われがちですが、実は様々な敬語の表現があり、特に英語でのビジネスの状況では適切な敬語を使うほうが賢明です。

今日はいくつかのビジネスの状況での敬語の使い方を取り上げたいと思います。

例えば…

・近くの人にペンを取ってもらいたい場合、"Pass me the pen."と言えますが、敬語の表現であれば…"Could you please pass me the pen?"

・忙しい時に話しかけられた場合、"Wait a minute."でも大丈夫ですが、敬語の表現ですと…"Could you give me a minute?"

・何かを尋ねられ断りたい場合、"NO."でも良いのですが、敬語の表現ならば…"I'm afraid I can't."

・飛行機の中で食事の選択ができる場合、"I want fish."でも大丈夫ですが、敬語の表現ですと…"I would like fish, please. "

・電話応対のひとことで、相手にお待ちいただくことを伝える時、"Wait a minute."も使えますが、敬語の表現では"Could you hold please?"

ビジネスの状況であれば、できるだけ敬語を使っていきましょう！

Good morning and thank you for your time to read this blog!
Today, I’d like to write about yesterday’s activity for my English school.
Yesterday, I went to some banks and asked about a bank account for my English school.
I personally felt that some banks didn’t care about small companies like mine, but others were very friendly and willing to help small companies.
After visiting a few banks, I decided to open my English school account at a bank which was very kind and polite.
To open my English school’s bank account, I needed my personal ID, personal seal, the form which I submitted to a tax office when I started my own business, and another piece of proof to show that my business exists.
Fortunately, last month I submitted a form to register my English school name, English Plus to the patent office in Tokyo, so I could show it to them and they seemed to be satisfied with it.
Finally, I was able to open my English school’s bank account!
I’ll just take the next step for my English school to get started!

本日は“英語学校用の銀行口座開設”です。

昨日は、英語学校の銀行口座開設のため田町にあるいくつかの銀行を回ってきました。

銀行により対応はまちまちで、個人的には大手の銀行によって、小企業を大切に扱ってくれる銀行さんと、そうでない銀行さんがあるように感じられました。

いくつかの銀行を訪れた後、親切で対応の良かった銀行で口座を開設することにしました。

英語学校は個人事業でスタートするのですが、講座を開設することに決めた銀行さんでは身分証明書、印鑑、個人事業開業届出書に加え、事業を営んでいる証拠を提出する必要がありました。

いろいろと書類は用意していったのですが、一番良かったのは、昨月特許庁に提出した商標登録の控えの書類だったようで、無事に銀行開設ができました！

英語学校スタートに向け、毎日前向きに準備です！！
