Today, let’s practice how to read numbers!
Needless to say, in our real lives, it’s essential to read numbers correctly either in Japanese or English.
However, through my English teaching experience, a lot of English learners are not so good at reading numbers.
It seems that small numbers are still easier to read, however the bigger number they become, the more confusing they get.
So, today, let’s learn and improve your skill of how to read numbers!
Let’s look at the example numbers below…
1 = one
10 = ten
100 = one hundred
1,000 = one thousand
10,000 = ten thousand
100,000 = one hundred thousand
1,000,000 = one million
Now, let’s try some questions.
Can you read the numbers below correctly?
1. 18,000
2. 250,000
3. 100,100
4. 3,050,000
5. 10,000,000
Was it easy for you?
Now, let’s check the answers…
1. eighteen thousand / 2. two hundred fifty thousand / 3. one hundred thousand and one hundred / 4.three million and fifty thousand / 5. ten million
Were you able to answer all of them correctly?
Whenever you see numbers around you, try to think them in English!

言うまでもないことですが、普段の日常生活において正しく数字を読むことは日本語でも英語でも大切です。
しかし英語に限り、自分の英語講師経験を話すと、多くの生徒の方は数字を読むことがあまり得意ではないようです。
特に数字が小さい時はさほど問題ないようですが、数字が大きくなると難しくなるようです。
そこで今日は数字を読むトレーニングをしていきたいと思います。
ご存知だと思いますが、英語で数字は・・・
1 = one
10 = ten
100 = one hundred
1,000 = one thousand
10,000 = ten thousand
100,000 = one hundred thousand
1,000,000 = one million
それでは上記の読み方を参考にここでクイズです。
下記の数字を正しく読むことができるでしょうか？
