「Portland Town」は、1957年に米国ﾎﾟｰﾄﾗﾝﾄﾞ（ｵﾚｺﾞﾝ州）生まれのｿﾝｸﾞﾗｲﾀｰのDerroll Adams （出ﾛｰﾙ・ｱﾀﾞﾑｽ ）の作品です。16歳のとき、彼は陸軍に所属し ､後に沿岸警備隊に所属しました 。朝鮮戦争にも参加､それを記念して書かれたｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙ反戦歌です。 彼はﾊﾞﾝｼﾞｮｰ奏者で､1950年代にJack Elliott (ｼﾞｬｯｸ･ｴﾘｵｯﾄｵｯﾄｯﾄ)に出会い、彼は西海岸の音楽ｼｰﾝを巡っていました。 2人は移動し、 ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Cowboys and The Rambling Boys”などをﾚｺｰﾃﾞｨﾝｸﾞしています。1957年､1950年から米国共和党上院議員ﾏｯｶｰｼｰを中心に共産主義者に対する過激かつ狂信的な攻撃・追放の米国内での反共運動（ﾏｯｶｰｼｽﾞﾑ）が行われ､その犠牲者となり､ﾛﾝﾄﾞﾝに移り住みます。

なお､1962年､The Kingston Trioはｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Something　Special”に1963年､Joan Baezは”In Concert Part 2”に1964年､Jack Elliottはｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Jack Elliott”に1965年､Marianne Faithfull（‎ﾏﾘｱﾝﾇ･ﾌｪｲｽﾌﾙ）はｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Come My Way”、Cy & Maria（ｻｲ＆ﾏｲｱ）はｼﾝｸﾞﾙにDerroll Adamsは‎1967年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Portland Town”に曲を収録しました。

「The Lilies Grow High」は米国のｿﾝｸﾞﾗｲﾀｰ､Stan Jones（ｽﾀﾝ･ｼﾞｮｰｽﾞ）の書いた曲です。彼の最も有名な曲は「Ghost Riders in the Sky」です。米国の西部開拓時代（南北戦争前後から20世紀初頭ころまで）に活躍した､拳銃の達人､一般的にGunfighter(ｶﾞﾝﾌｧｲﾀｰ) Gunslinger (ｶﾞﾝｽﾘﾝｶﾞｰ) と呼ばれるｶﾞﾝﾏﾝを歌った曲で別名「Boots and Stetsons and Sixguns」とも言われ､ｶﾞﾝﾏﾝのｽﾀｲﾙを表しています。『Boots』とは西部のｶｳﾎﾞｰｲの間で発展したﾛﾝｸﾞﾌﾞｰﾂのことでｳｪｽﾀﾝﾌﾞｰﾂとも呼ばれています。乗馬の際､ぶみから靴がはずれないように高く急傾斜に付けられたﾋｰﾙが特徴です。また､『Stetsons』とは 米ﾐｽﾞｰﾘ州の､世界最大の帽子ﾒｰｶｰJohn B. Stetson社製の帽子のﾌﾞﾗﾝﾄﾞ名で19世紀に､で砂金取りのためにﾋﾞｰﾊﾞｰの毛皮のﾌｪﾙﾄで帽子を作ったのが始まりです。防水性があり幅広で山高の帽子がｶｳﾎﾞｰｲに愛用されました。そのため、ｽﾃｯﾄｿﾝはｶｳﾎﾞｰｲ・ﾊｯﾄ「Ten-Gallon Hat（ﾃﾝｶﾞﾛﾝﾊｯﾄ）」とも言います。そして､『Six Gun』とは、6連装になった回転式拳銃ことで西部劇で言えばｺﾙﾄﾋﾟｰｽﾒｰｶｰです。また､『lily』には男らしさのない男 の意味もあり､ﾍｯﾄﾞﾎﾞｰﾄﾞとは墓の頭の端に配置された木製の平らで厚い墓標のことです。

「Bury Me Benieth the Willow」は、死んで、しだれ柳の木の下に埋もれたいと願う絶望的な男性についての悲しい歌です。 男性が女性の心変わりを歌っており結婚式前日に新婦が姿をくらますといった内容です。性別は歌手によって異なり、歌手が女性の時は（彼女→彼、男→女）となり､それぞれの詩の多くの異なるﾊﾞﾘｴｰｼｮﾝと曲名があります。 1906年にﾐｽﾞｰﾘ大学の英国人教授がﾄﾗﾃﾞｨｼｮﾅﾙ・ﾌｫｰｸｿﾝｸを収集するｸﾗﾌﾞに参加したことによって見出されました。
