我々、Bark Yellowsは40年、CoverをしてるBrothers Fourは結成50年を越えましたが、２０１１年の活動は控えめ、”season 50”と称しアメリカ国内ツアー中心で５公演ほどです。現在Kingston Trioとの共演も含まれているようです。また、メンバーのMark PearsoonとMike McCoyはデュエットでの活動を広げているようです。.
Brothers Fourはハーモニーが美しいと言われていますが決してそうではないと思います。
ユニゾンが美しいんです。ブラフォー・アレンジでは歌詞の1番は基本的にはユニゾン、この時に4つの声が調和してあの癖のあるBob Flickの声が目立たないのです。そして、2，3番となりコーラス、ソロとなってくるとそれぞれの特色の有る声が生かされあのハーモニー生まれるのです。
この50年ほど,Brothers Fourのメンバーの入れ替えが有りましたが、このサウンドが長年、大きく変化しなかったのはBob Flickの存在に有ります。独特な歌い方が逆に特色をあたえているのです。“Try To Remember”を聞くとよくわかります。
音楽的な傾向は、Dick Foleyが主にリードボーカルをとった1957-1990年までと、Mark Pearsonがリードボーカルをとった1991年-現在とで分けられると思います。
1957-1990年においてはFolk Songを基調にDick Foleyの甘いボーカルを生かしたバラード等イージーリスニンクのPops、Folk Songファンとしては物足りない時期もありました。1991年-現在Folk Songへの回帰からBrothers Fourへの回帰、昔の曲の再アレンジを試みているようです。
